hi my reversing light bulb stopped working .
got a replacment bulb.
took rear lamp off and unscrewed bulb holder .
bulb was blown came to remove it and this is what i found /found.
glass broke , metal part of bulb stuck fast . removed with snipe nosed pliers .all normal so far .
and then .
found the following modifacation due to corrosion of electrical contacts.

extra hole drilled in bulb holder 2 cables passed thrugh hole.
earth wire fanned out and lightly tinned with solder.
mould to shape of bulb and trap between the two parts
live cable soldered to centre contact of bulb .
(re soldered) a new bulb on re fitted and now working again .
all in all not a bad dodge to remember.
ANOTHER DODGE .
If a bulb glass breaks use a cork.
push onto remains of glass and remove as normal.
rgds.

Thats a good repair & a lot cheeper than replacing the back part of the unit  I had a indicator bulb that was loose in it's housing on my old escort which had the RS bumpers fitted I fixed that on the road side with the silver foil from a fag packet, I folded it a few time & stuffed it between the bulb & holder. The bulb never stopped working again

This is a real handy tip so I moved it here
