So before I refill the rear diff do I need to fix these leaks?

If I do....how do I fix em? Is it just a case of nipping up the bolts or is it remove the plate and fit a new gasket? I'm guessing here:nenau:nenau

Cheers

Dave

Why can I only attach 1 file per post?

I just lived with it when my 05 plate did that, was like that for a year as I px'd it like that. However I'd be tempted to replace gasket or sealant and paint the diff up.

That's not really leaking that much but if oil can get out water can get in, if the diff was hot and you submerged the axle in water it would suck in water.. Personally i would repair as it is a really easy job, I've just had to cut the welded on diff pan off my Land Rover and weld a new one on as it had gone pourus, now that was a pain in the bottom.

You will own a Land Rover :lol

Cheers chaps, I've ordered a gasket. The oil in there was a little murky and it smelt burnt.

The gearbox wasn't much better and the trans was a thick black gloop.

The lying git that sold me this reckoned they had all been done just before I purchased it. I've done 30k km since then without really motoring. There is no way that oil has aged that quickly.

With the exception of the gearbox I pulled out way less oil than should of been in there. I reckon nearly a litre short on the diff and 3/4 short on the trans.

Why don't they just say oils need changing, or I don't know if they need changing or whatever. I would have changed all these a lot earlier and it wouldn't of mattered I would of still bought the thing.

There you go....guess I'm just too trusting...

Sadly Dave not everyone in this world is trustworthy and it's easier not to trust people and be pleasently surprised when they are proved to be telling the truth.

Anyhoo now you can work on the truck knowing it'll be fine afterwards. Hope you are using proper limited slip diff oil tho and not gear oil.

Yep, well I've got a couple of bottles of the Nissan additive...

Still as you say when its done I'll know its been done. Unlikely these will ever get changed again given the km I do a year.

make sure you have proper limited slip diff oil, not an additive - anything else and the car will give you a very nasty surprise on the first roundabout!

If the car came with a user manual, Nissan lists the proper type / grade in there.

OK so are you saying that the Nissan additive is no good and shouldn't be used?:nenau

Advice given out on here is not to bother with aditives for diff oil and go for the proper stuff. Is the additive that you have genuine nissan on the bottle or has it just come from a nissan dealer?

Do not think I would be using any additives as it also depends on what oil it is being added to, just stick with Comma LSD and you will not go wrong, Rick
