hey chaps,

so I checked my engine bay fluids today as I have a few leaks. Looks like I am still leaking coolant (water pump probably) and also the clutch fluid. Its taking a while, but I'm just about down to minimum after several weeks.

I want to try and get it fixed asap. I cant see any leaks from the filler and pipes in the engine bay, no leaks in the drivers foot well - where else should I be looking, what are the possible leak zones I need to check?

hope you can help, thank you!

Slave cylinder and flexi.
Also the damper pipe, runs to the rear of the vehicle, to near the rear axle, with a nipple on the end.
Some remove this pipe and block the manifold next to the slave cylimder, with a ball bearing behind a nut.:thumb2

cheers Rustic, the slave cylinder and flexi has reminded me, thank you, must be leaking there because I can see the fluid flowing down the gearbox.

Jim I might not be around tomorrow, but if I am I will give you a shout, thank you!

My clutch was loosing fluid over months slowly, was leaking on the pipe off bottom of master, just a tiny amount!

Well it's such a slow loss not sure if it is fixed, area now seems dry but just tightened a nut. It was already tight so just a nip :thumb2

cool, Ill do that. I can see a bleed nipple and there is even a cable tie on the rubber wotsit on the master doodah, near that is another nut so I will nip them all up.

One thing I have noticed on my 4x4 since I have had it, is there are a lot of loose nuts. hmmmmm.....

Probably as a result of some have a go DIYer who doesn't know one end of a spanner from another.:augie:augie:augie

Mind you having said that...
When I had a clutch replaced on our old Ambassador by Halfords, they didn't tighten the engine mount bolts, in fact one had fallen out, they hadn't pushed the drive shafts in either...:doh

So it could still be "professional" doing the work.

If I was you, I would be inspecting the brakes, just in case they have been "improved" by previous owners...

Sounds like my work eh? :naughty :lol

This was the nut on the underside of the master (on the pipe leading down)

I know the one you mean.

on another note, we went out to Knaresborough today, I was supposed to use the Fiat, but one of the tyres keeps going flat (had a temp repair done, looks like I need a proper repair doing now) so we took the 4x4. My intention was to park the 4x4 up so I can fix the coolant leak and the clutch fluid leak. I have also developed a creak....

Got to Knaresborough no problem, clutch fluid remained at MIN, but I had to take an awkward tight turn, then the car started acting as if I had transmission wind up at the front, sort of rumble knocking. Anyway, it seemed to get better in a straight line, so I sorted the car out, turned around as we got lost and it seemed ok after a quick drive up the main road. Back to the car park all ok.

Drove all the way home, no problem, got some fresh clutch fluid from the garage, topped it up then went over the road to Sainsbury's. Attempted to reverse into a spot and couldn't get it in gear - it sort of wobbled about (the gear stick) but after a couple of tries was fine, then was fine driving home..

??

Did the clutch pedal feel normal during this time, if not could be trapped air.

yeah, felt fine. At odd times throughout the journey today though, the pedal has felt a little unusual - so with what you have said Rustic, I will bleed the clutch fluid as well just to be on the safe side...!

hey guys, can you help?

just had another look at this. Got my other half to pump the clutch pedal, but I cant see any fluid coming out of the flexi pipe, master cylinder or any part of the pipe that goes off to the rear of the car.

What I can see, still, is fluid where the gearbox meets the clutch housing, so I am more inclined there is a leak there somewhere.

Can anyone advise where this may be, is it fixable, or is it a "wait until you need a new clutch" job?

Before you go any further, wedge a bit of wood down on the clutch pedal and keep it pressed for about half an hour. Go back and check all pipes for weeping ect :thumb2

chaaaaaps. I located my leak towards the back end of the car, so have cut out the pipe from about half way. I don't have any compression fittings etc, so I was going to re join the back end of the damper to the cut pipe using fuel line - will this do the job??
