I know a few people have problems with water getting in up by the sunroof motor, and while building a roof console for my car, to fit the 4x4 Response PMR radio in, I have been doing a fair bit of work in the area around the sunroof motor.
There is a pressed steel bracket up there, which provides the clips that the plastic switch/light housing attaches too, and also has the screw holes the motor cover passes through to fix to the roof.
There 3 obvious screws above the map lights, and 2 more further back by the sun roof motor, but there are also 2 extra self tapping screws, one each side that are much further away from the visible centre screws, behind the roof lining, and these self tapping screws seem to have worked loose on both of our cars. When I looked at mine, there was a rust streak running from the screws down to the back of the small removable plastic cover. These screws pass right through the roof, up into the sunroof surround, so when loose, rain can run down them. On my car, the screws were not really tightening up, so I replaced the self tapping screws with nut and bolts, with a bit of tiger seal.
So those of you with the leak up there, it might be worth a look.
