I have just repaired the hot/cold heater cable with the drill and screw trick, I also did the same to the air direction cable for good measure as I could see a hair line crack in the plastic where the cable clip goes :thumb2

I managed to put all the panels, glove box, radio etc back in and it just left the plastic panel under the speed to fit. Went out there just now to fit it and noticed that the LCD repair I thought I'd done, didn't work :doh LCD back to the broken display. I have took it out again (damn plugin connectors on the normal/snow/sport switch and speedo - definite knack to know where to press to release them) and I can't see any dodgy solder joints on the LCD display. BUT, if I press the little white plastic piece that sicks out, the display is normal.

Can I remove the PCB or is that not wise?

I will attach a photee with the plastic part marked.

How can I attach more than one photee to a topic?

OK :thumb2

I have just done what I think may cure the LCD display, but time will tell. If you look at the picture in my about post, just above the arrowed white plastic sticky out bit is a hole in the PCB and a hole in the plastic. I have managed to find a small screw and a fibre washer in case I short out any tracks and tightened just enough to pull the PCB in a bit to replicate what happens when I press the white plastic thingy. LCD is perfect when I refitted it tonight, so will see if it behaves it's self when it is driven over a few bumps :thumb2

If you do this all you are doing is compressing the joints to make a contact, which is ok but I think they will eventually fail again. You need to re solder all the contacts in the long row in the center,Like Rick did with mine

I did solder the two which looked dodgy, but must confess that I didn't re-solder all of them

Still OK this morning :thumb2

I need it to work on Tuesday PM as I have to see the VOSA inspector, so that he can confirm that the speedo reading is 44,423 NOT 744,423 as the twonk at the MOT station insisted it was :doh

"Sorry mate, I can only put down what I can see" says the MOT monkey...
