Late Terrano (Post 2000 models) diagnostics

Hi, I'm new to the Terrano forum and just starting to get the requests to have a look at my partners' 4X4 as it seems to be lacking the power of her dad's older oil burner (1998 s reg) although they are both 2.7tdi's.

I'm a backyard mechanic with above average diagnostics experience on oem and aftermarket ecus, but this one is a little confusing.

I have searched around this forum and googled generally but cannot find a difinitive answer of how to tap into the cars full diagnostics.

The car has the non-compliant 16 pin OBD plug
There's no M-M adapter for the 14 pin consult interface, do I have to make this up, though it's available when purchased as a full kit

I have purchased the consult 3 software which is supposed to be backwards compatible with all Nissans. I have also purchased the 14 pin interface dongle.

So I'm left with the task of 16-14pin adapter, anyone know of a supplier for these?

I'm curious as to how these Terranos (i think 2000-2004) are interrigated by the enthusiast such as myself, i have had no such trouble with vag-com (VW Audi group) or DICE (Volvo)

Any advice is appreciated, I'm going to check the mechanics of the engine such as the turbo, while head scratching the diagnostics

I just made an adaptor from 14 pin to 16 pin, there are only 4 connections required for Consult, GND, STX, SRX, +12V.
FWIW the interface is plain old serial 9600BPS, 8 bit 1 stop, NP.

diagnostic confusion

Just an update on the diagnostics.
Wired up a chinese consult dongle using the wiring diagram as a guide.
The led showed power but wasn't acknowledged by the computer.
Checked the pinouts- confirmed, then checked the 16 pin connector on the Terrano, I've got more pins showing than the picture used as reference.
Can anybody confirm the that rewired 14pin dongle should still work? Do I have an obd compliant socket?
An ideas greatly appreciated

Love tinkering

Got to be honest, I can diagnos the problem the old fashioned way, but I love diagnostic software.

I've got (building) a f430 replica with a 4.2V8 Audi engine running a VEMS ECU, all I can say is WOW! So I've always loved Full diagnostic software.

I'd like to get the consult working, I'll check the flyby wire and maf (give it a clean). I read a few posts regarding mafs and if it's faulty, replace with oem.
any further help regarding the consult would be apreciated
