Has anyone mounted large sotlights to the bumper on a T2. If you have any tips they would be appreciated.

Not done it but I have had the bumpers off and looked at em etc.

You need to choose your spot carefully so that you got through the steel reinforcer into a place where you can ge a solid mount and get a nut onto the mount. Would advise taking the bumper off to have a look first. Its pretty easy. 2 bolts either side through the chassis rail, undo the wiring for any indicators/spotlights etc in the bumper and theres 2 slide clips on the wings, pull the whole thnig forward. you'll thn be able to see what you're mounting into.

I have 7" spots mounted to my front bumper  The main prob I noticed is not having spots which are deep at the back as they'll foul on the grill  I just drilled through the plastic bumper & fitted large repair washers on the under side & I have'nt had any probs with them over the last year

I've got 8" PIAAs on the front of me mav 8)
I had to makemfit a bit as they only just fitted due to large bowl at the back, just about got alignment.
But are they bright(for off road only you know) 8O
Blinking rabbits everywhere :!:

Thanks for the tips. Looks like the bumper is coming off 2moro. I have some rallye 2000's in the shed. Need to give them a coat of paint.
Maybe I will post a few piccies of the fitting.

You got the 80 series with H4 bulbs?
URRM don't know what series they are (ebay specials)
They do have H4 dipping beam set up, so like head lamps. Put some of those ebay 110/90 watt blubs in 8O mmmm

They'll be the ones. Did the Manx (Historic) rally a few years back in a Mk1 Cortina fitted with them and running PIAA best bulbs too, they're about £50 a bulb and they really were awesome. Big Brise alternator running em and all was light.

For straight (non HID) spotslights PIAA take some beating, would love some myself but never come across them at sensible prices, ultimate have to be lightforce but they really are stupid money but worth it from what people who are using em have told me. Note to self must get lamp pod set up on new motor ASAP.

I wondered about the alternator. I've got 4 roof spots@100w ready for fitting, plus 100 watt blubs in the fog spot positions, and headlamps etc..
Is the std alt ok to keep the battery perky?
Running big amp inside too and cb!
I've got an ebay search reminder on incase any PIAA bulbs come up 8)

got, well did have cheapo truck style 9" spots with built in side lights.
could just see them from cab over end of bonnet!!, mounted as per
sw33ty's bit of wobble. been off since filled rad with mud and had to
get grill off to powerwash. may be go back to 7"s for better airflow and
a strap to secure.

Don't know about the Alternater but how about fitting a second battery?

Jim T

Second batteries are good for things you use with the engine off or intermitently - like a winch. Things like lights that are on constantly should be able to be powered completely off the alternator. Lights are also a lot brighter off the alternator than off a battery, approx 14v versus 12v. We had something like 1kw of lighting on the fron of the cortina a second battery would only last about an hour at the very most whereas a larger output alternator will last almost indefinitely.

Good old Lucas 20/20 which last saw action on a 1972 Rally Firenza 2300... never any use as car was never pointing forwards!! Fine on the Terrano just bolted through the plastic section of the bumper with big washers and straightened out jubillee clips as adjustable steady bars 8)

Lucas 20/20s and jubilee clip steady bars - old skool cool

Got some 20/20s tucked away somewhere, keep thinking about putting them on my van. Got 4 IIRC and then 2 more new beams just in case.
