I have just had back box replaced on my T2 2.7 tdi.The T2 would not start the following day,due to a flat battery.Up until the exhaust repair the battery/charging was never an issue.I cannot imagine that the exhaust repair could trigger the charging issue?Any help/advice would be appreciated.Woodyc.

Well worst case is they've shorted some wires somewhere, so I'd carefully examine underneath in that area......for your battery to go flat overnight, its either got to be in poor condition already, or be drawing a fair amount of current from somewhere (more than just an interior light say)....so should be fairly obvious whats doing it. You can always get an auto electrician to put a meter on and see if theres a drain with everything switched off.....or have you got access to a meter yourself?

How old is the battery and is it a heavy duty one? If more than 5-6 years I'd replace it anyway TBH....

Sounds like it could be a faulty diode in the alternator.
When these go they can cause a drain of 3 Amps.
Disconnect the alternator plug (engine not running) and see if there is a drain from the battery still.
Could the exhaust fitters used an electric welder of some sort to replace any studs ?
Hope this helps,
Rustic

how far away was the exhaust fitters place

Did they do any welding on the exhaust when the repair was carried out

I have ran the T2 round to my local garage, update so far-Alternator is charging o.k,could be battery related due to lower spec battery being fitted.Going to check towing electrics for any issues and try new battery next week.Going away with the van next week so i will report back then.I will check for welding when i get the T2 back. Thanks for all of your help and advice,Woodyc.
