Noticed a weird noise today, when reversing out of my parking space at work and over the gutter in the road - with pretty much full lock on had a knocking noise. I got the same when pulling into my drive at home, best described as a knocking noise or the tyre catching on some thing.

Does not seem to make the noise when moving in a straight lime just on full lock. Any ideas - ARB links ?

Thanks

Richard

If its a nasty sounding graunching noise then it could well be the steering stops; the plastic covers wear out and you get metal on metal contact n full lock sometimes. no biggie. just grease them and see if that makes a difference.

Yes the graunchy sound does better describes it ! Ah ok will have a look at the steering stops later tonight - to be fair it had been pushed heavy through the depp snow and the mud recently and splashed through a lot of water.

Can buy replacment plastic covers ?

Have to say very impressed with the speed of replies and depth of knowledge displayed on this forum.

you can buy the caps from main dealers but i find a blob of grease does the same thing at a fraction of the cost.
just done mine as i was getting the same noise as i drove on and off the drive on full lock.

I think you can, or even bodge something up, but they wear pretty quickly....you'll see the little U-shaped brackets with one end welded to the hub.

Personally I've never bothered about it, just a quirk of the marque and it doesn't really do any real harm.

Glad you like it here!:)

steering stops as said above. I bought one set of caps and they lasted 4 weeks. Best to grease the stops themselves (i do it about every6 months) and forget the caps.

As Zipp's as said, plenty of grease, done mine at the weekend :thumb2

PS Plastic bag on hand and get stuck in then simply peel bag inside out and off your hand. Hands nice n clean:thumbs

knocking noise

I would put my money on the plastic caps being worn, as i replaced mine and the noise went away but a good dollop of grease does the trick, if you go for the replacement caps try and get the metal ones (last longer):thumb2

Does anyone know the part numbers for the metal or even the plastic caps - & where get them from
Did have a quick look on Nissan4U but could not find them
thanks

You may need to get a box full of them because as others have said they are not likely to last long. Have the noise on full lock for nearly two years now. Had caps fitted at one point but noise was back again shortly thereafter. If you feel you need to do something more than just greasing them regularly I think I read on here somewhere that someone used a piece of rubber piping instead of the plastic caps. On mine there was an added strainig of metal noise on full lock as well initially when I got it. Garage I bought it from said it was some bars or rods needing adjusting or tightening. Don't know what bars they meant but they got rid of that noise.
