A lot of mud and AT tyres seem to be remoulds thesde days and have quite a good reputation. Does anyone have any specific experience with Kinpin tyres?

not specifically kingpin though truck came with insa turbo mountains, insas
all seem to be remould.

i found when in transport industry remoulds were common place even though
many still frowned on them in car use.

i gather remoulds have been popular in rallying for several years.

the only issue i have with the aggressive remoulds is price which does seem
high compared to brand new all terrain types. but the muds do feature more
rubber/tread i suppose.

I have them on mine. Had them on the truck pretty much since i got the truck. I have had zero problems. Great on the road, in the wet, never had it slip. Brill in the snow i have found, massive amount of grip on mine.

For the money, i think they are spot on. Mine were very cheap when i got them, think at the time £40 odd each, probably not that now though...

i'd have to check, but i think these are mine..

pretty sure mine are Kingpin Tracker.

Thanks for the replies!
as you know,I have a set of Insa dakar muds for my second set o rims, but to be honest I don't think can be bothered to faff about swapping them over between road and mud. My original plan was a set of tyres like yours Clivy and use them for everything they seem to have a decent reputation and are a reasonable price. If I lashed out on a set of 5 BFG's would be frightened to drive on them!

thats why I stuck with the most aggressive AT I could find as realistically
the truck is only off road once in a while and most of lanes I do are fairly
hard surfaced anyway. Suspect more likely to need traction with caravan
on a soft field.

Having rotated all the wheels on the troll, and being knackered by it using
spare on each side once equated to doing 6 wheel changes. Then theres
storing them and foresight to have right set on for conditons.

When couldnt get AT2s wanted STs but these AT/Rs are good on road and
has fair amount of treads for rougher stuff.

Its all down to convenience v compromise, oh and driving skill lol

Kingpin, no chance

Insas, decent and good mileage

thats Balls.....ive had Kingpins on mine 4 years and they have been cock on.

Iv'e had these on vans and trailers and found them very good as long as you observe the rules. Don't drive like your on a Top Gear run and don't over load them too much or they get hot. They do the job well at sub 70 mph. David.

I did have a couple of new of Kingpin tyres on the back end of a van years ago, I drove on them until they were bald and never noticed any difference from any other tyre. They (Kingpin 4x4 tyres) do have a good load rating, 950kgs, and a speed rating of 93 MPH, both of which are plenty for a T2.

So far we have one good response from someone (Clivvy) who has owned and used them on a T2 for years and that response is good!

I may give them a go and then I will know for myself first-hand. They are a company from Wem in Shropshire.

They do the same BFG & Goodyear clones as the other big remold brands but at less money!

We had bfg mt on out old patrol we use to go to pay and play regular in the winter as you say got fed up swopping them over each time so in the end just left them on with no problems on road wet or dry.
Still need to choose what tyres where gonna run for winter not been in a rush as our current tyres are all good.

Just fitted Malatesta retreads to mine . Company I got them from said Malatesta and Fedima have more reinforcing in the side walls than Kingpins and are generally better quality. Not a lot of difference in price

Brian

Brian, I fancy a BFG AT clone, and having compare the three Kingpin, Maltesta and Fedima. The Malatesta seem to be the best, on paper anyway, they have a better speed rating, load rating, and bead/rim protection like a real BFG. So ATM I am planning to give them a go, Cheers :thumb2

Why not? have you ever tried them? :nenau

I have read a lot about them using inferior casings, rubber coming off and them being unbalanceable from new.

The chap from that tyre place in notts said as much, although he sells kingpins, he says that he's never had an insa come back with a problem.

Insa use quality Michelin casings iirc so they are all standardized in terms of using the same quality casing throughout

Who's this please. David.

Interesting, as I spoke to the tyre dept man from John Craddock who said Insa's always stand slightly different heights (only a few mm) and the tread depth varies by a few mm as they are all different casings -and he sells hundreds of them :nenau

I think all remolds are made out of old marigold gloves and worn out flip flops! but I'm still gonna buy some :lol

Well lads, I have my family in there, i drive the wheels off my truck which is why i went for cooper stt's, they are as good in the wet under high speed braking as the branded road tyres i had on before, you wont be getting that performance from kingpin muds ;)

Each to their own

Just a general reply guys. I've not had Kingpins but have had Insa Turbo tyres and they were fantastic. However I was on the simex copy pattern and were full on mud tyres, great in the muck but even I say they should be avoided on the road. Wet road and stopping distances can be seen from space :lol
I'm now on proper Simex tyres and the same applies in the wet, so I DO go through all the bother and swap over to my road set of Hankook Dynapro. They seem ok price wise and a good aggressive A/T or tame M/T depending on your view point.
Cooper tyres do seem the tyre of choice at the mo from their ability cost AND availability
