The problem that originally caused me to seek out and join this club has returned, admittedly after 2 years, but once again I am unable open the car remotely on the key fob.

Anyway I am going to send the key away to a guy on eBay for repair. I hope it works as the little micro switches inside the key don't look damaged like they did last time.

I wonder if this a problem with all Nissans...?

key problems

I had my single button remote repaired but it only lasted about a year and gave up.

In the end I had a Cobra alarm / imobiliser fitted so got two nice new remotes in the bargain.

i did mine myself, one works fine the other plays up some times.

need to look at it again before i give up all together

Macbethiel,

Did they fit this on top of the NATS system and/or does it still work the central locking?

How much did it cost?

remote locking

My Cobra system operates the central locking and is as well as not instead of the original system so when it feels like it my old key will lock the vehicle but not initiate the Cobra immobiliser mine is just a single point system so no insurance discount or certificate . Not sure what NATS is so I could not say. I had a similar system fitted to my old Merc 300 TE 4-matic and it was 100 % reliable on that for the 3 years I owned it.

Added bonus for my truck was the anti-hijack auto locking when you drive off.

It cost me £200 but you could fit it yourself for a fraction of that. 20 years ago I would have done it myself as its not that difficult. In the current climate I reckon you could get it done for closer to £150

macabethiel,

Thanks for the reply. NATS stands for (I think) Nissan Anti Theft System and is the factory fitted security.

At £200.00 fitted that's quite reasonable, especially at £35.00 per key repair, or £108.00 for a new and unprogrammed key.

If the next repaired key doesn't work I may have to think about an aftermarket system.

Regards

Alan

i have a simple LaserLine fitted to my MX6, its insurance approved, and very cheap to buy these days. keyfobs come with, and as Macbethial says, works along side the existing system, so the added security is there plus the delayed immobiliser is good...
