Hi you all
What do you all think about K&N air filter for 2,7 tdi Terrano ?
I did buy one today that fits the original air filter box, have someone noticed difference in power / tourqe or fuel ?

id say negligible, what attracted me was life time warranty fit n forget.

if it does improve breathing might be worth disconnect battery to allow electronics to reset and take account of the flow.

gazz,

ive been looking to fit one for a while. if you dont mind me asking how much did you pay for it?

cheers

Ross

I fitted one after I fitted the PSI Powerbox; I'd found the chip was causing a lot of black smoke, so figured a better filter may help. Can't say I noticed any improvement in power or torque, but then I'd already fitted the chip. Little bit of induction noise, but does the job. I've used them on previous cars and not noticed any real change in power or torque.

Bought mine from ebay, was someone who'd bought it then never fitted it and sold their wagon. The later TDi's, (2001 on) don't have a filter listed on the K&N website, but the filter listed for earlier TDi's fit.

I fitted one a few months ago, when it was first fitted it did seem to have a definite improvement in torque at lower revs, cant say ive noticed any better fuel economy with it.

Bought mine from the ebay seller below £29.36 +£4.99 p&p

He hasn’t any listed at the moment may be worth an email.

Where do I get chip ( PSI Powerbox ) for this engine, and is it much work to fit chip in ?
Is the PSI Powerbox doing anything more power, tourque etc ?
Is it still black smoke ?

For the 2.7TDi they are no longer made, they are often seen on E-bay as people sell vehicles and remove them. They are a 5 minute job to fit, simply using exisiting plugs in the loom to link into. Prices vary, some members on here have got really good bargains, mine was £160, which wasn't too bad considering that nes they were about £380 or so.

Noticeable increase in power & torque, and since the K&N filter went in, no problems with excessive black smoke. I might still remove the box for MOT purposes just to be sure though
I think the problem with smoke occured becuase when I fitted the box the car was coming up to service, so the filter was in need of a change, but the fact was that if the car was going to get that smoky before every service interval I wanted to take some action that would hopefully prevent the problem occuring, and a K&N seemed the most obvious.

I htnk ar £30 they are a good way to sve money on future services if nothing else, I have allways thought they do make a little difference, but it might be psychological.

I have heard bad things of performance filters on Diesel engines, they let more air through but more of the stuff you dont want going in to the engine, dust ect. I shall be fitting a bigger filter and hounsing to my Nav.

nnman, dont be cnfusing K&N (genuine ones) with those cheap piper cross and simmilar foam filters K&N clean the air better than the original equipment filter andfit your standar housing while allowing more air flow, check them put on the web they are excellent quality.

managed to pick up a new air filter specifically for the Mistral ...

ADL Part No ADN12218 for £10.58 + VAT

Are these fancy air filters worth it?

http://www.northwoods-ltd.com/

I paid around £30 each for the ones i have used, and if you are keeping the car for a long time yes they are! as they have a 1 million mile warranty and only need cleaning around every 50k miles so quite a saving over several paper ones (I am talking about K&N) then the makers claim they improve fuel efficiency and power, and if its only a tiny amount it would pay for itself after a year or two driving, where as you paper opnes just get thrown away!

im a bit skeptical about these air filters. i a k&n fitted to my micra, and it made the acceleration slower, thats mainly because they filter the air better, which obviously creates more resistance. the good thing about them though, is like i said they do filter the air better, which should prolong the life of the engine. as has already been mentioned, they are a lifetime filter so should pay for themselves after a few years.

if you fancy really changing the filter, heres something im hopefully going to do next month. take the old air filter casing off just leaving the MAF. then attach a cone air filter straight to that, either by cutting the flange off the MAF or by fabbing up adapter plate. this should increase engine pickup because the increase surface area on the filter. itll also sound really nice to: i had one fitted on my vitara when i changed the carb, gave a nice roar when accelerating. if i do fit one next month, ill post some pictures up.

k&n do filter for tdi with adapter for maf and little bracket i had one on the maverick its in shed now lol

same place got mine from they were cheapest and gave free cleaner and oil away free aswell

oh cool, didnt realised they did a 57 kit for the terrano/mav. thanx guys for pointing it out

I had a new boxed K&N filter in my habds this ,morning and fitted it to a 2003 Suzuki grand Vitara, on the back is the chart shwoing the improved air flow, not the reduced air flow!

I suggest whatever was making the micara slugish was most probably not the K&N filter, unless it was a copy? or badly needed cleaning?

the k&n was a replacement panel filter, so it had the same surface area as a standard filter. the micra was also only a 1litre, so the difference was more noticeable. your gv has a lot larger engine and its a 4x4, so the bottom end torque would be far greater. i think there is a lot of hype about these air filters, it all depends on what you go for, what type it is and more crucial where you mount it. one last thing, do you really believe everything companies say about their products, in theory if the air filter has better filtration its not going to have an improve air flow. on the other hand, cleaner air may mean better combustion so a faster car, but why would the car manufacturers make and use paper element filters if they no good.

before anyone starts shooting me down, all of the above only extends to standard replacement filters, i obviously wouldnt be fitting a total replacement 57 kit if i didnt think they were good for something

Plank, I have read a lot of good reviews of K&N but I can not see how you can filter the air better and improve flow over a filter withe the same surface area.
