I wanted a volt meter and vacuum gauge for the car, but was not sure where to put them as I use all the obvious places for other things, so did this in the end.

Really pleased with how it has turned out.

The volt meter has smoked glass so goes opaque when turned off.

sent from my phone, sorry for any typo's.

Nice job, but you've got me intrigued about your other dashboard mods. Whats the red and yellow switches behid the guages.

I wanted switches that I could not accidentally leave on, so they are those covered over switches where you lift the cover and then can access the illuminated toggle switch. The great thing is, when you close the cover, it switches off the switch.

The Silver is the front Amber LED Strobes
The Red is the rear White Work Lights
The Yellow is the rear Amber LED Strobes

We use the strobes for SE4x4R work, and the reason they are split onto 2 switches is when doing Search and Rescue, the lead car only has front lights, the follow up car on has rear, that way, the searchers are not continually being dazzled by the flashing lights.

The Blue Digital Display through the steering wheel is the Volt Meter for the second Battery.

Nice :D

Where did you get the gauges and pod?

Ahh right, I used an illuminated rocker switch via a relay to put a switched out put on the spare pin of the 12s socket. I stick a beacon on the roof and plug it into the 12s socket when I attend raynet events but like the idea of lead and tail cars only having beacons.

Thanks.

The Pod is from Ebay, I had trouble finding one that would fit the T2's "A" pillar, as it is only 75mm wide, and most pods are 90-100mm. They do a nice single one as well.

Double Pod

The Gauge I had to order from the USA, as I could not find any non-vacuum ones, that also only did 15PSI over here, but I do have to say, the delivery was pretty quick.

Boost gauge

That's a good idea, saves running leads through doors as well.

I have LED strobes permanently mounted on the car, hence the switches. I also fitted Yellow High power LED's into the roof mounted work lights, and got a Whelen Wig Wag unit to flash them, so they double up as high mounted rear warning lights. I also have a remote controlled 12volt Socket in the boot, that I plug the Beacons into, if I need them.

What's the extra clock guage thing above the speedo, is it outside temp? If it is I like that as the old Terrano doesn't have that function.

No that is the Volt meter for the second Battery.

The outside temp gauge is a Lidl cheapy and down on the central console.

Flipping heck your motor must weigh twice as much as when it was built lol
Like your ideas tho:clap

Thanks.

You could be rightabout the weight, but in my mind, I off set the extra weight against removing the very rear seats, and seatbelts... Having said that, the amount I have offset against them, they must be the heaviest seats in the world...:lol

Where did you get the volt gauge from?

I ended up going for this one...

Stepper motor Voltage Gauge

I wanted one that used as much of the display as possible, and most only use about a third, where as this one uses 3/4's. I could have gone digital, but in my mind, I wanted analogue, as it just seemed right with the analogue Boost gauge.

Looks great Clive:thumbs been wanting a double A pillar gauge for ages but as you said their all 100mm wide:doh what was this one like to fit ? was the much trimming to do etc. Just bought 2 new gauges (boost & volt) to replace the ones i've got but want to mount them either in the centre dash air vents as i've done this before or A pillar mount them:augie

The top was fairly easy, as I just took most of the the infill out with a scalpel, but the bottom was a bit harder, as the A pillar gets wider at the bottom, so you have to do a bit of shaping to allow the side to come over the angle.

I used several small screws to keep it tight, but I have ordered some tiny black trim rivets which will make it look a bit better.

Basically, I cut it roughly to shape, then wrapped a very course sand paper round the removed A pillar trim, and moved the pod up and down that to get the final shape right.

Thanks Clive:thumbs might get one if I can't find a centre dash soon & will put that gauge pod in my watch list as it seems to be the only one under a 100mm

Ok so the voltmeter lights up blue and looks cool but what about the boost guage?

It does light up blue, with a Red needle, but more like the dash board, so just a blue glow at night.

Unfortunately the people who made the Volt Gauge do not do a matching Boost gauge with the right range. But the Volt gauge does dim down at night, so while still brighter, it matches the boost gauge better.

The Boost Gauge is made by VDO, but their volt meters were like the old fashioned Smiths ones, fitted in the old BMC Leyland vehicles, and weirdly cost more than the boost gauge.

VDO gauges are making a huge come back like the smith gauges & as you said the prices are going up for them:augie If you wanted the boost gauge to blend in with the volt gauge a bit better you could just mask off the screen & spray the bezel silver:thumbs yes I have a little OCD:doh

May well end up doing that... I will be taking it back out, to sort out the plastic rivets, and I was going to play with some LED's and see if I can make the display "Ping" a bit more.
