hi guys just bought an astra , ecotec i think.

its w reg and low on power, e m light comes on and off. but while fiddling about i noticed the egr valve next to the battery is making a buzzing / rattling kind of noise that seems to be in time with the engine missing and loosing power.

its a black tube shape with vac and out writen on the hose outlets .
im guessing / hoping its this noisy part that is my problem

your thoughts ??????

forgot to add the egr valve is linked with the inlet manifold switch over valve on this car. according ho haynes manual

id say very likely if it smaking a sound, although I wonder if its been fiddled with? Also, consider that the em light lack of power could be something to do with the engine/valves. Let me explain.

at work we had a Vectra CDTI, this car from start off had low power, em light on, then randomly it would go out, power would resume. It was apparently some pipes inside the engine that needed to be replaced....!?

Swifty is the guy for this one but he is not about at the mo, but sounds to me like the egr valve is stuffed, I would blank it off full stop, I have been checking the valves on the two spare petrol engines I have here, and both pass air when closed, so as soon as I can I will be blanking mine off, Rick

do i block the one marked vac or the one marked out ?

check oil level too - some Vauxhalls (certainly the later Vectras) have a setup where they go into limp mode if oils low.

No forget the vac pipes, you need to block the pipe between the inlet and exhaust manifolds cos the valve that should be closed between the two often dos not, Rick
