Well we took the plunge yesterday afternoon we have found a replacement for the Hyundai Santa Fe, we collect her on Saturday afternoon.

She is a 2005 plated 2.7 CRD (5 cylinder) one of the last before they changed the shape and went over to the V6 engine. A run out model with lots of extras as standard to flogg off the old model.

She is in great condition 3 owners from new with a nice specification. My first impression was that it steers like a 20 year old car (think tractor) and sounds like an old Merc ML.

Showed the Missus a Terracan as an alternative but she did not like the look of it describing it as boxy ! Most importantly she liked the colour of the Jeep!

Will post pictures at the weekend, it comes with a pretty good 3 month warranty thrown in and with a pair of new Goodyear Tyres on the back FSH and dent free.

Boooooom!!!!!!! Good man :D Dream Car of mine

Looking forward to some pictures

Sleepless night

It became my lack of dream car last night ! All the things that could go wrong with it were going round in my head keeping me awake - I am not a fan of modern complication TBH I have never understood diesels like I do petrol engines.

Just the usual anxiety I always feel when making a major purchase - it must be an age related thing I guess. When I was younger I just couldn't care two figs! lol

Nah, that's just a man thing :lol

Send us some pics when you get the chance, and get pally with the garage you are buying it from, you want to be their best customer if anything goes wrong.

I'm sure what several of our customers do is, purposefully come in for a load of small jobs to befriend everyone including the techs and so everyone knows their car

It works though, "oh look here comes mr jeep man" :augie

Or if your bonkers it will be "oh crap look out, here's that nutter in that silly jeep" :lol

A good choice, if I could only I get over my phobia of automatics.

Auto Phobia

A good choice, if I could only I get over my phobia of automatics.

You are not alone my sister-in-law hate's automatics as she does not feel in control so my brother when he married had to revert back to a manual.
My father-in-law drove HGVs for a living and can't think outiside the box.(nice pun)
My late mother changed from manuals to automatics in her fifties and could not understand how she suffered a manual gearbox for so long!.

I learnt to drive in an automatic but took my test in a manual. I then had a few years driving manuals as I could not afford an automatic not least because they used to be much thirstier than a manual and were the preserve of big engined cars with big insurance too.

It sounds daft but if you took a couple of advanced driving lessons in an automatic it can make a big difference to how you perceive them.

Although I drive manuals at work I personally will never own another car that is not automatic. Some of the modern SMG boxes and dual clutch automatics like the VW range are outstanding, quicker than a manual and more economical.

I only drive autos but they are expensive as they do go wrong often, a lot of my previous vehicles have had problems with the auto box, small little £350 for a new pump thing in my Vectra to 4 replacement gearboxes in my transit.
But so much nicer to drive when they are working correctly.

Kind regards

Russell.

They are nice motors mate:thumbs & there are also loads of mods on the market for them so when is it getting the 3-4" suspension lift & 35" tyres:lol:lol:naughty

I understand that it is an irrational phobia as I have no real experience of either driving or being a passanger in an auto. I am fully aware that there are folks that love them. I also know that the Cherokee is very capable off road too and a very good looking car too. But it's an auto... :nenau
Mate had a 2.7 and absolutely loved them, he went on to replace it with a 3.1, the were both stunning and he rated them massively. He also reckoned that the 3.1 was more reliable too. They handled very nicely on the road and were very comfortable places to be inside.
You won't regret it.

All but one of my motors have had manual boxes but I have to say auto's are great to drive & a bit more relaxing plus auto's are better for off roading:thumbs the only problem I had driving my auto was my left hand kept going for the gear stick to change gear:lol would I have another auto ? oh yes:thumb2

Really like my T2 auto, had a Disco 300 auto before that, used to teach off road driving with a beautiful 3.0 ltr Trol GR auto......so sweet.....:thumb2

Love my auto terrano :thumb2
Main reason for changing to an auto is my mrs's back condition.
Have got 3 now. Terrano, diahatsu terios and a ford focus.
Alot of people say to me that an auto will be crap in the snow and off road but if you know how to use the gears properly they are just as capable as a manual.

Interesting my experience has been quite different in 30 years or so of owning automatics I have never had any kind of fault or failure but I have never towed with them.

I must add that I am a stickler for fluid changes.

The more modern automatics seem to have more things to fail such as gearchange solenoids etc but most of my autos have been mechanical fluid brainbox based.

I wont comment on auto g/box failure :augie , but they are a lot easier to drive both on and off road in my humble worthless opinion , ..... hope you are happy with the jeep :thumb2
