I was doing a bit of light off-roading a few days ago and went up a quite steep hill and managed to catch the back end of the tow bar on the floor.

This has snapped off the 2 plugs that are attached the the plate that is welded to tow bar on the left hand side.

I found it hanging by the two wires and have just cable tied it at the moment back to the tow bar

Has anyone else ever done this and if so how did you fix it?

I'm reluctant to have it welded back on in fear of it just coming off again :(, is there anyway of modding it so I still have the electrics if I need them but just have them out the way so they don't get damaged again when off roading

Cheers

Just buy a new plate off eBay should be about a tenner at a guess

Or get rid of towbar and cable tie electrics up above UR chassis like I did

I might keep the tow-bar because I do plan on using it at some point but where can I tie the electric up to out of the way without them rattling?

Have you got any pictures of yours?

I don't mean chuck it away lol, just remove it

Depends how your cable runs mine drops out the body In the n/s rear quarter, I just cable tied it above the chassis in the n/s/r corner

I ripped the plug off on mine but now keep the electrics inside the boot, as I don't tow very often. Means I have to route the cable through the door seal, which I can't imagine does it a lot of good, but it does mean that damaging the electrics when off-roading is now pretty much impossible!

I got sick of fixing mine so I moved my sockets on to the rear bumper:thumbs Got a nice rear step as part of bumper on mine (some models don't) and managed to mount the sockets there so that they don't look too far out of place.

That sounds good, you got any pictures of that?

on mk2 and later its more of a step bumper so so room either side of spare for sockets

on mk1 could either mount on outside face of bumper or some have mounted to body
under brake lights.

alternative on my mk2 was change sockets to inline plugs and stuff them, in a plastic
bag behind number plate. this worked pretty well for me.

Best fix is to fit the socket into the wing below the rear lights. Easy fix and wont mater what you do to the tow bar or the bumper off road etc :D
As stinky says just undo the tow bar when you go off road and put it on again after. Only 6 bolts

like what pete said
move to step just below wheel ( to one side )

or upto wing.

might also be an idea to change to the 13pin socket too

13 pin saves sapce if have both n and s sockets, but are a bit pricey plus will likely
need 13 to 2x7 adapter, more expense. plus some are saying pins in 13 plugs are
fragile, prone to being knocked out of alignment.
