Just spent the last couple of days giving the truck the once over, to make sure she is fit and ready for the MOT. Took the chance to do a major service while I was at it.

Took rear hubs off, checked, cleaned, and re-greased everything, then re-adjusted it all. I hate the rear brakes, they are so difficult to work on.

Took front brakes apart, cleaned and re-greased everything. I like Disks, so easy.

Replaced the brake fluid by bleeding all the fluid through entire system

While the wheels were off, had a look at all the ball joint, couplings and tie rods, plus checked the pipes.

Changed Rear Diff oil.
Changed Front Diff oil
Changed Transfer box oil
Changed Gearbox oil, and put additive in to try and reduce rattle.
Changed Engine oil and Filter
Greased the 5 nipples on the two prop shafts
Greased steering stops

Discovered bottom bolt of Power steering pump had nearly fallen out, and was now massacred, fortunately I managed to find a replacement.

Changed pollen filter
Greased all door hinges, locks and sliders
Took air filter cone out and cleaned it up.

Replaced both horns as driving in the floods had killed them.

Decided to have a proper look at my clutch peddle, so took it all apart, played with the adjustment slightly, then bled it all through, as the old fluid was a dark colour. (Seems better)

Cleaned up the engine bay

Checked all the lights, wow there are a lot to check.

Didn't do Fuel Filter, as it was only done a couple of months ago, when I had to change the filter housing block.

Spent an age cleaning the drive, as every oil I changed managed to spill at some point and leave a puddle on the concrete.

Now, if she fails, at least it shouldn't be on anything simple....:bow

I didn't think we touched the Power Steering pump, did we? The thread was well chewed up, so, I think it had been like it for a while, anyway, not a problem even if we did.

It was funny, as it stood out like a sore thumb looking up from under the car, but you could not see it unless you really looked when looking from the top, down.

Got to ring up tomorrow to book it in, so not sure what day it will be yet.
 
No you are right did not touch PS pump, had to go out and have a look to refresh my memory, have to on the 2.4 but not the TDi, phew, I was worried there, see how the memory gets you going when you cannot remember these obviously clear details, hope this is not the start of something more serious, Rick,
 
So... that's quite a fluid change, but what about the Anti Freeze to complete the set?

Smart a$$.. :lol I said to the wife the only fluids I have not changed are the coolant, battery and the fuel....

Did the coolant last year, when I had consecutive problems with the water pump, then the Turbo. Put a good quality one in, so I will leave that until we get back into next winter.

I do have 4 x 5 litre containers with a mixture of oils and sludge in to take to the recycling tip next week....

I have oil in places on my body I have never put any form of lubricant before... Off to see how adventurous the wife is now....:lol
 
I did an oil and filter change on the Picasso last night, that's the problem with a diesel, the slightest splash on your hands, and it takes a week to wear off.

You can often be mistaken for Sid James as the Black Fingernail... :doh

I have some latex gloves... funny how I never remember them until I am already covered in grease and oil... I had to put them on to give me clean enough hands to grip and turn the oil filter....:doh

I hate the latex gloves, they wrap around threads, of any bolts and tear to shreds.
Even a socket set, they get tangled on the handle.
Then you end up with oil on your fingers anyway.

Waxoyl attacks them too :doh
 
That's part of the reason I don't wear them, plus they make my hands sweat. But I got them specifically for oil changes but still forget until it is to late.

Result :D a proper reward for all your work :clap I'm dreading my back brakes, they've sat in old mud for over a year now :eek:

It's funny, but with all the advancements in car design, I can't believe how "Heath Robinson" drum breaks have remained over the years..

I got an extra bit of good news as well today, I had a chance to speak to the tester, as he was rather enamoured with my car, and managed to ask him about the rear brakes on the T1, where the back plate is corroded away. The T1 is a Disk drum combo, the drum is just the hand brake, and basically as long as the rusted away part is only on the bit that covers the Disk, and not up to the drum part, it can still pass the MOT.
