hello would anyone here just use car ramps on there own the reason i ask is that i have a set of car ramps the terrano fits on them just about ie tyres slightly on edge but on my other cars i had none 4x4 i would usually get under with no axle stands ramnps only ,
is it recommended as my blooming stands arent big enough to reach anything
any recomendations as iknownothing :nenau:nenau:nenau

I do think you need to be really careful here. I'm not into H n S much BUT.........
If you've got the usual one way up ramps, be careful not to get to far on them as they get unstable then.:augie
Good luck

Jack it up and put some tidy railway sleeper offcuts under the wheels.

Regards

Alan

i had my t2 up on ramps and stands at front when i did all the oils, i had no problem at all. but if not sure edge on safety and use axle stands but be sure they are suitable for a 4x4, i bought 6 ton set (3ton each) ordinary car stands may not be suitable. :thumbs

Always think, what would happen if.....:nenau
A ramp could slip, fail, sink, an axle stand could slip or fracture. Double up.
Take 10 more minutes making sure you are safe. Wooden sleepers sound good, but not bricks, the point load will shatter the brick.

My uncle advised me regarding ramps, check for rust around the welds etc
I use ramps plus axle stands in case, especially if you are going underneath, and more especially if you will be using high torque to undo something.
I always shake the vehicle to make sure nothing settles. NEVER use ramps or axle stands on unfirm ground, and tarmac will deform easily.

I always put the wheel ( if I take it off) under the chassis with a block of wood on the wheel so there is still space to escape.

Possibly over the top, but you are putting your life in the hands of a welder on a Friday afternoon who would rather be at the pub.
I am not getting at welders, just the usual Friday afternoon production that affected many of our cars in the 1980's.

I used to work for Ford in the early 80s :augie and I wouldn't have a Friday motor, or a Monday one for that matter.....:lol
Come to think of it I wouldn't have one from the 80's:doh
At least not while I was there:wasntme
