Is is air con belt just for air con?

Hi all, as in title.
There is what I think is a tensioner to top left of compressor (standing in front of truck), looks like its just mounted on a plate that is bolted to engine, I jus want to be sure that's all it is before I take belt off, air con not working, compressor is making a noise that is doing my head in!! I read a thread on 2nd alternators on here which gave me idea of just taking belt off until I look int a/c problem.

Yes mate it only drives the aircon compressor. I took mine off as my compressor is knackered.

You need to undo the big nut in the centre of the pulley

Cheers buddy, I've jus cut the belt for now, will take rest off tmoro aft, was yours easy to come off or seized?

I am using the aircon bracket and belt adjuster on my 2nd alternator project.
Large nut on adjuster came undone no problem 22mm socket I think
