Hi
We've had our x-trail for 3 weeks now and after a hectic couple of weeks I finally had a good look round and have noticed a knocking sound from the rear,Does this mean the suspension is on its way out. Also when looking in the engine bay to the left of the engine block there's a lot of instant gasket where the manifold? is connected,Anyone shed any light on it for me.We love driving this car especially as we've just traded in a L200 Warrior which was a little less civilised.Oh yes ,its a '53 2.0 petrol so would this have an intercooler,We're off back down the showroom later so was hoping to be armed with a little knowledge beforehand if poss
Thanks

I apologise for this being my first post but we can finally have a bit of time now and are looking forward to trying the x-trail off-road

No it shouldn'thave an intercooler they are only ever fittd to turbocharged vehicles.

As for the rest - yes i'd say the knocking needs investigating not sure about the gasket sealant - can you post a photo of it pls.

Knocking from the rear is either caused by worn anti-roll-bar drop links (considered a service item on the xtrail- mine does it - i need another set!)

or

the large silencer across the back has come off one of its rubbers or the heatshield has got bent and is touching the underside- again very common.

Thanks for the replies,I went on www.usedcarexpert.co.uk and you can download vehicle specific guides free,The banging is the anti-roll bearings and the garage is going to replace them on monday,The hermatite (instant)gasket stuff is used as common practice at our local nissan dealers so although i feed its shoddy its nowt to do with where we bought the car from.We also got all the paperwork through this morning and its only got 6wks MOT so they're going to put another 12 months on it monday while its down there. So all in all a good hassle free result. Can concentrate on enjoying the car,the dogs definitely prefer it.
