i can't remember if i posted about this before:doh but could i fit a intercooler to my terrano td, will it make a differance or just explode:augie, i come up with ideas and just want to check:lol

An intercooler is basically a heat exchanger designed to lower the temperature of the air leaving the turbo before it gets to the inlet manifold.

When you compress air, latent heat drops out but as this air is traveling, the heat is carried making the air less dense with the addition of condensate. The turbo runs at a high temperature which adds to the problem of heating up the air so the intercooler is there to drop the temperature to increase the density of the air thus slightly more air is taken in per induction stroke of the pistons.

Adding an intercooler can't really do any harm as the same engine is fitted to Terranos which do have intercoolers. :augie

as urs is not fly by wire:lol to gain anything from the intercooler you will have to open up the pump abit more so u can use the extra air other wise u wont get the benfits:thumbs

....... I don't know..... The air measured is the same, if you condense the air i.e make it smaller then the flow increases, this would be registered by the air mass filter / detector.
After all, you are not altering the mixture, you are having the same air to fuel ratio, just at a slightly higher pressure - i.e very cold morning the car seems to go better.
I know many vehicles where the only difference is the adition of an intercooler - it makes a difference but also a difference to your fuel gauge. ;)

There's no MAF on a T^D though is there ? :nenau
More/cooler/denser air will therefore just weaken the mix. So you'll need to crank the pump for more fuel :thumbs

ur right no maf on td engine as its not fly by wire:lol

Intercooler might give you acouple of horses and talks in the mid-range due to the denser air, but most benefit will be from adding some extra fuel to the mix.

Ahh ok lol, mines cable :thumb2

Yes the Td's are cables.
There was a conversion in the threads some time ago so worth doing a search, there were some pictures too, infact over a year ago I posted a conversion from a scrap yard I found on ebay for the Td engine and nobody was interested, it was really cheap too.

The conversion requires some big round holes in the metal work at the side of the headlights, so not for the faint hearted.
