The intercooler is a sort of air radiator. The idea of the fan is to blow colder air throught the inter cooler thus lowering the temp of the air going into the engine. The air will be more dence so in a way your squeezing more air into the engine & with it more oxygen so you get a bigger bang & a bit more power out put.
I think it may have been Chaster who has done it, so will see if I can find the thread & poss photo's

Hi have 9" fan fitted (£29.00 of ebay) to the patrol on a manual switch. flicked on when towing or high load low speed manoeuvring
i.e. in traffic in town on camp site or (off roading)
I would recommend it.I have an Exhaust gas Temp Gauge fitted you can see the exhaust temp drop by 3-5 deg
when the fan is switched on and driving in the manner as above, at motorway speeds I tend to leave the fan switched of.

look here will give you an idea http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19389&highlight=intercooler+fan[/img]

this is Same as i fitted to my patrol

thanks Sweety, will look in a mo, lunch time over at work

i have one as std on the troll, which works off a temp sensor, iv never seen it on lol

I used the aircon fan, when I removed the aircon. I never bothered fitting a switch though, just used the spare contact off the split charge relay so the fan only runs when the engine does. The cheapest and most effective mod I have done, but combined with a chip you have an instant flying machine

Kev, any chance of some pics of this then, im sure theres just more than me, is your fan on all the time then as theres no switch ???

You took the words right out my mouth. I'm going to try mine with a live feed to see if the fan is working

Just for everyone else the fan on a 2.8 TD6 patrol is mounted underneath the intercooler :p 8O

Nissan call the fan the charge air cooler, sounds very important

remove the relay box in the engine bay, locate the IC fan relay, remove the cover and touch the switch in the relay :)

If you are looking for a fan Kenlowe do a special kit to fit the T2 TDi. it includes fan, mountings and thermostat control £109 inc vat.
www.kenlowe.co.uk I have just contacted them and will go and pick it up later as they aren't too far from me.
