XT has been into Nissan today, a week short of its third birthday, and end of warranty, and the intercooler has been indetified as leaking (along with part of the sircon as a seperate problem).

Thank god for warranties, garage says needs to be completed by end of work next tuesday to be done in warranty period.

They might like to think so but the key thing is identifying the fault within the warranty period, not actually doing the work.

Yep thats myunderstanding of it too. As long as you have reported a fault or they have found one within the warranty period than it should be honoured.

Get them to check the turbo is not over boosting, causing the problem. I seem to remember that Turbos have been a problem on them, or was it something to do with the EGR cooking the turbos, cant remember.

I know with warranty on the tractors we sell as long as the supplier is aware there is an ongoing warranty issue that started before the expiry date then time isn’t an issue.

Don't worry guys, if they'd failed to get the vehicle booked in before the end of warranty ("sorry sir, we can't fit you in........") then I'd have made an unholy stink about it, as my understanding was the same as yours, problem identified in warranty can be dealt with after the period is up.

Nissan have approved the claim and the local dealer has, to their credit, made arrangeemnts to get the car in tommorrow.

Re over boost/EGR, any other symptoms that I could put to them? Car isn't overly smoky, runs well, the problem was ID'd on a pre MOT checkover at my local independent garage earlier in the month.

Earlier posters absolutley correct (beenm there unfortunately :( )

problem identified and reported during warranty period = fix under warranty.

fix under warranty or any work for that matter = warranty on applicable work effective for "reasonable amount of time" or as stated if more appropriate.

On a prev car I had the air con failed, then it started playing up outside of the overall warranty. The problems were directly attributable to the work carried out even though it was 7 months old.

The large well known chain agreed to repair as a gesture of good will, solicitor and trading standards said bollocks just do it ....and they did :lol:lol:lol:lol

Well, car was in on thursday evening, and I got it back on friday.

Seems a little quieter at motorway speeds, and slightly more throttle response, so perhaps this leak has been present and causing a problem for longer than I thought.

Happy with the service from the dealer regarding this matter.

Air con canister was also dealt with, new sals fitted and a purge, pressure test & re-gas. Was going to get this done before the trip to france in the summer, so pleased with that as well.

Intercooler failure

Also had small intercooler leak with oil mist coming out from top of engine. No warranty in this case with an estimated bill of:- INTERCOOLER £1693 + Vat
TURBO £1176 + Vat + labour £120 from local garage.

Will have to put up with the oil leak as to correct it will cost more than the car is worth.

Keenchap.

I've chosen to go with an extended warranty with Warranty Direct for £23 per month, was going to do this anyway due to the XT's documented problems with turbo & intercooler, but now extrememly happy to have arranged this policy.
