Wifes insurance is due for renewal soon Adrian flux last year £269.50 this year £292.20, thought I would have a little hunt, best is Saga at £176.47 almost the same cover fully comp no matter how you do it, it is never like for like, different excess , limits on this or that etc but Saga are giving what we want so will be going with that, Rick

Move to New Zealand. No insurance, unless you want to, no-one bothers.

surely not correct!!!!!! what is the system otherwise? Rick

Suspect it's a bit like Australia Rick :nenau automatically get 3rd party cover with your licence and you only pay for insurance if you want fully comp

first thoughts we should have that here, then realised there are so many driving without a licence that it would not solve the problem of uninsured drivers, so anyone any ideas on this issue, incorporating insurance with fuel purchase is one but it will enormously complicate the actual transaction, ( high and low risk drivers etc) and what of the cash purchasers that give false details? so think that is a no go, unless perhaps each driver is given photo licence card that you would need before you could purchase fuel that adjusts your insurance rate pro rata with your risk but that will give problems to lawn mower owners, just thoughts, Rick

They have miles of open space and a few sheep. Cars are left unlocked with keys in the ignition.

Fishing is great too.

:lol

We had this discussion a few weeks ago Rick, you didn't want to be paying for other peoples insurance when you filled up your mower!!!

I love this topic, it's a great one for a debate. I still come down on the 3rd party insurance in the price of fuel, same for tax. Then you only pay for what you use.

I'm now off to my bunker to prepare for the fallout!!!

:lol

Saga, years ago would not insure a car with any mods, so no tow bar, so clearly no trailers or caravans, no tyre upgrade, only standard car as produced, also no young drivers as additional drivers, at least that's what it looked like when I enquired a few years back, so it didn't suit me at the time.
Since then, they may have realised they were loosing market share, and include minor mods, like tow bars, even then, some insurers don't include twin axle trailers or caravans... Read the small print, we nearly got caught once, and had to cancel.

Hey Rick, if it's not too late read on.
Adrian Flux always play this game. What you do is ring them up all disgruntled. They say they'll match any quote so each we go through this "saga" :lol
Tell them you've had a better quote at 160 quid and they'll match it from "their other company" :augie
Anyway, works for me

Works for me too until this year (just renewed actually), would not match it on the phone. So sent a PM to Dan on here and he was able to match it.

Interesting as I've just had another increased renewal for the Trol.
Will see what happens :)

I have Jeep with NFU, Merc with Saga, 300C with More than. We swap companies most years. No customer loyalty these days.

Goodluck, You should get the best deal with AF.
My insurance went down a whopping 5 pounds from last years price even with my extra 1yr ncb. Something about insurance tax has gone up bla bla bla

Still they matched the cheapest quote I got on comparison websites so thats something at least.

They wanted to charge 40 quid as a fee for issuing the bloody policy :doh

+1

I don't renew ANY insurance policy, without shopping around. Once I have a lowest price, I go to themand tell them I have a like for like quote 5-10% lower. Most times they will drop a bit more.

I also NEVER have a voluntary excess. The amount a voluntary excess reduces your policy by is, in mostcases, very small.

The other thing is to always have your wife/partner on the policy. This usually reduces your premium.

Job titles also can be played around with a bit as long as you don't lie. I am a multi-skilled tradesman. I have my own Limited company of which I am the company director. The company director title gives me a lower premium.

The key always though is don't lie.

as per makitfit's suggestion I emailed AF and said do not auto renew as had another quote, they came back with tell us what the quote was and we will match it, so I gave them the "Saga" details, AF have come back today at £1.47 less and no policy issue charge, so total £175.00 result as long as the cover has not changed, need to print it out and go through it, Rick

Result.
I went to AF with the quote I had from Octagon and they couldn't/wouldn't match it.
I'm now with Nationwide Building Society so can knock of a further 60 odd quid as I no longer need the Insurance breakdown cover.
