Insulation on underside of Bonnet

Hello

I own a 95 Nissan patrol gran road. Does anybody have the problem on similar models of the insulation panel directly attached to the underside of the bonnet being completly worn (filling now coming out)
Does anybody know of any aftermarket insulation that can be purchased or does this part need to be ordered direct from Nissan?

Seems hit & miss whther vehicles have this under bonnet insulation or not. I know of T2's that do, and others that don't- mine does not.
I seem to recall ads for sound proofing type felt in mags like Autotrader.

Being new to the mystery of mechanics myself, what is the function of this insulation>

Sound insulation?
Engine Heat insulation?

Be carefull using after market stuff as it can catch fire, I had a friend that lost his MG Midget through this.

It's just sound proofing as far as I'm aware. Personally I would not bother fitting it. If it was mine I would pull any loose bits off and leave it.
