I have a set of Insa turbo Dakar tyres in the original 235 70 16 size I intend to fit on my spare rims. (they are on landie modular rims at present). Despite being the same size they are quite a bit taller than standard road tyres (and the road tyres I have are new and not bald) so should give a very small ground clearance advantage.

Has anyone any experience of these tyres? what are their road manners like noise/fuel consumption handling etc?

well, dad and i fitted bigger tires to our astra rally car and road noise got louder

Very close copy/clone of original BFG MT.

Imagine its the tread depth making them look taller, probably in 25mm range?

they are actually a fair amount taller than a standard road tyre, probably as you say the chunky construction and tread depth. I did take a comparison photo. I will see if i can find it, if you remind me tomorrow I will measure the tread depth, but i don't think it's as deep as that more like 15 or so mm off the top of my head.

I run these tyres on my T2 and had two new ones put on last week. Fair bit of road noise compared to road tyres but nothing turning the radio up can't solve. Handling is fine in the dry but in the wet i've had the back end out on a couple of roundabouts when i've booted it. Can't comment on fuel usage as i've never had road tyres on it to compare. Good tyre for the money though and i will definitely buy again.

I've got the sahara muds, n i don't find them any noisier than my enduro runways but i haven't drove them on wet tarmac thankfully as my truck is mega tail happy (or maybe my lead foot :sly:augie) mine are defo more fuel hungry tho (31/10.5/15's)

have a look on insa's website n see if u can match the sizes cos i think those come in at's and muds

? these are 235 70 16 Dakar muds? I think the AT pattern are called rangers.

as i recall rated at 80%/20% off/on road.

toyed with idea of having them on t2 though
as amount of heavy off roading I do is limited
to few days a year decided on a more modest
tread.

of course if can run to second set of rims then
thats winter and laning sorted.
