In tank fuel filter?

I did search this and out of the 14 pages I trawled through, the few posts I found seemed to suggest that there isn't an in tank fuel filter...

Before I get elbow deep in Veg oil and petrol to find out! can anyone confirm if a TDI has an in tank lift pump with filter bag? or is the fuel drawn by the Injection Pump up at the engine?

no pump in tank and from what I can remember no filter either but has plastic swirl around pickup pipe which can get gunked up:thumbs

the petrol version does have a tank filter the TDi does not, how do I know, well the banjo bolt to the inlet side of the main filter on my off road motor blocked with some cack that could not have come through any kind of filter, Rick
