Advice needed please folks.

Own a 1996 Nissan Mistral 2.7 TD LWB automatic.
This was imported from Japan about 3 years ago. It has had some sort of conversion to mph speedo, apart from that no knowledge of any other mods etc.

I have rebuilt the engine due to a cracked cylinder head, so it now has new rings & big ends & valves recut etc, so should be ok.

The vehicle is not exactly what you would call earth shatteringly fast, or feels like it has loads of power, but then I am used to petrol cars and have nothing to compare it with. I appreciate it is a large heavy vehicle and some power will be lost through the auto box, but feel mine is lacking something more !

Once up to 75 - 80mph, it does not want to rev or pull any more, and will not even kick down. At this speed it is doing about 2800rpm, but will not rev beyond 3000. It will however rev past 4000 at lower speeds which is what makes me think of a possible speed restrictor of some sort.

I am wondering do the Jap imports have some sort of restrictor fitted ?

I have found there is a switch fixed to the accellerator pedal bracket which appears to be adjusted so the pedal never actually makes contact with it. Is this the kick down switch, or what, & what should it be adjusted to ?

What sort of mpg do people tend to get from these models ?

A few questions there I know, but am confident you guys & gals will have lots of answers for me !

Looking forward to actually getin out to play off road asap if anybody is going within north west/wales areas any time soon. Have not been off road yet, so you will get chance to play with a virgin !!

Can't help with the problems you're having as I've got a petrol manual but if you fancy coming out laning have a look at the thread "Green Laning Weekend anyone interested", we'll not be in N Wales or Lanes but the bit of N Yorks we're going to is only just over the border.

Please stick to the topic , also moved to correct forum.

Have you checked your mini filter, if not worth a look.Go to the downloads in the workshop.

See my post 'won't rev' in mechanical forum: Mini filter sounds very likely. Ten minute job.
