Hi all,

I have a 1997 Mav 2.7tdi. Its not used everyday and for a while I've experienced intermittent starting problems. For the last few days everytime I've tried starting the truck all I get with the ignition on is a fast continuously flashing MIL light which makes me think immobiliser. If you pull the starter when shes doing this it just turns over and doesnt fire. Today I disconnected the battery for a couple of hours and then tried again. With the ignition on the MIL flashed fast for a few seconds then stopped so I was able to start her. Also noticed that now their is a key in ignition warning buzzer when the ignition is off - this wasn't working before hand. Although apparently fine now I've no faith it will last which is sad as apart from this its a great vehicle. Anyone any ideas as to cause of problem?? Will the download to access fault codes work if i can't start the engine? Any help/ideas greatly appreciated. Just for history the battery was changed last year as the old one constantly failed to hold a charge as it wasn't getting much use. Thanks in advance.

Rapid flashing indicates no compatible code received back from the key chip.

Firstly try your spare key- its not unknown for the chips to go faulty in the key.

If its no different at all, then first port of call would be the tiny 2 pin connector on the pick up coil around the ignition barrel, and then replacement of the coil and cable assembly itself.

Tim.
