hey guys,

as some of you know I sold my Terrano to Monaro Pete.

I picked up the replacement at the weekend, an 04 plate X-Trail. Its the 2.2 dci sport, and so far so good, all seems ok but I will give it time, I always expect something when buying a new car, something that may go wrong or wasn't apparent when buying.

Love the car though, very different to the Terrano, and very powerful, surprisingly so in fact. I'm still hanging around because I really like it here. Anyway here is a pic

:( Sad you got rid of the Terrano

indeed, but its gone onto a good man who will look after it :thumbs

Nice looking motor

Good pictures if it's been serviced properly should be OK as it's made by a decent manufacturer at the end of the day ! Am I right in thinking they have a cam belt or is it a chain one ?

Lad at work had one but I was not surprised when his broke down with Turbo failure and consequential engine damage that made it beyond economic repair as he drove it very hard and it had some gaps in the previous service history!

these are chain driven. The mk1 had issues with the chains breaking, so they fitted this 2.2 Renault engine to the mk2. These don't have chain issues, but they do have turbo issues. Well, its actually not the turbo, its the intercooler, and what happens is that the I/C construction is weak, crimped rather than welded. Those crimps open up, and confuses the sensor for the turbo saying its low pressure give more boost. Turbo gives more boost, unnecessarily of course and leads to oil in the intercooler, turbo failure then engine damage!!

I need to check mine, but the history is pretty good - Nissan replaced the I/c in 2007, and also some recalls were done too. Turbo itself looks very shiny so may be new I don't know - no paper work for that but I have paper work for pretty much everything else, service history is almost impeccable.

so, I may replace the I/c for a heavy duty welded one, I just need to have a look but there aren't any oil leaks in the pipe or the I/c itself which is apparently the early warning signs.

its had its brakes done all round, so no sticky calipers which these suffer from, and although this is a negative in some ways, the entire underneath has been treated with underseal. Would have been nice to see the condition prior to this but thye have done an astounding job to be fair so fingers crossed its all ok, on inspection it seems ok, but only time will tell. Its also had the arbs and bushes done too, car drives almost perfect, almost like new.

Exterior is good, I think the front bumper has been blown over because I can see some paint that has run a little, but that said it looks stunning so I am not bothered.

Sounds like you did your homework mate, I like the look of these motors but know nowt about them really, I bet I goes well with that big Reno engine in :naughty
Now you just need to tint headlights and rear lights, black the grille, badge and door handles, granite wheels, tinted windows and you're sorted :D:thumb2

.

That sounds familiar I know he had oil washing about in the induction side before it blew up. He was miles from home when it started smoking heavily and it finally came to a halt.
He needed a car for work so he cut his losses and traded it in as a none-runner for an Alfa Romeo Diesel. Out of the frying pan and into the fire ! He now runs a Merc.

yikes, that was a hell of a risk getting the ALfa, though I have to say my Fiat Stilo which is a 1.9JTD, used in many Alfas, is brilliant

Looking good Clivvy and of course why would you think about leaving, it is a Nissan isn't it?
Sounds like you have done your homework too pal :thumbs

Hey Clive. Looking good mate (the car obviously :D )

That door looks close to the stepped drive or is it the angle?
I'd be bashing the door handles if I parked my Monaro there :lol

So far we have two happy forum members. One with his new Terrano & one with his new X-Trail :thumb2 :thumb2

no its the angle Pete, that's just the path!

Yh the xtrail is of course very "Nissan". Its weird to drive though, that bonnet is enormous and it seems bigger due to the not as high seating position when compared to the terrano! I do like it though...a lot!

Also. No doubt I'll be getting up close for a good look on upon my return :thumbs

why where you at? You been given time off??

I have a nasal infection of all things. I have nasty smelly snot, head aches over my right eye, blurred vision in my right eye. The Antibiotics I've been given are making me feel kak on top of the infection.

I can't even enjoy the sunshine, because the light kills my eyes :( :( :( :(

clive! ya canny go! i've 3 got japs, only one of which has parts of a terrano!:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol

oh ill still be around, Mel, no worries there!:thumbs
