Hi All

Just signed up to the forum as am based in Northampton & looking to get myself a new toy.

I cannot decide which is best & I welcome any help you guys can give:

1, Nissan X-Trail (2002) 2.0i Sport
2, Ford Maverick (2003) 3.0XLT with LPG conversion
3, Nissan Terrano (2007) 2.7

PLEASE HELP - this is driving me nuts, am planning to buy in about 2 months (in time for a trip to Ben Nevis for a brisk walk) but don't really know enough about these to make a proper decision.

Cheers for any help...

welcome to the club, loads of friendly help and advice here, in answer to your question and i'm a bit biased i'd got for the terrano, crackin motor

A lot depends on what you want to do with it :)
2.7 diesel for longevity and/or offroad anything.
3.0 lpg for big car like action.
xtrail for the wife :augie

I personally would not get the 2003 maverick as it's nothing like the older 1999 and earlier maverick terrano II type and this forum would be very little use for it.

I'd get the terrano but being a 07 road tax would be expensive.

Also depends on what you mean by toy. :lol

Thanks for the quick replies :)

sorry - its a 2002 not 2007 terrano.

Funny you should say about the X-trail, the missus added that to the list for me (because its perty)

As far as use goes - will be used daily for work, but need something to carry all my kit in for trips to big hills in remote places (cycling/walking etc). Would also like to be able to have a play off road too, but the main thing is getting me to the hills.

Welcome aboard Monkey. The 2.7 Terrano would be my choice. Mine has been great but getting a little elderly now. The 2.7 engine is pretty good and has gear driven timing so none of that timing belt nonsense.

Jim

Depends what you mean by 'best'.

The Xtrail and Maverick (actually the Mazda Tribute with a Ford badge) are soft-roaders really. The 2002 Terrano is the proper off-roader and a 7-seater to boot. But fuel economy sucks...around 25mpg on average....I suspect the X-Trail is the sensible buy......but the Terrano may well suck you in LOL

Ah but you can stick bio or veggie oil in the T2 and save a bucket load :sly
OR in other words an equivalent 35 mpg plus :thumbs and it smells nice

am probably looking more for the soft roader at the mo, as have promised not to start any new "projects" until my other half finishes uni next year.
Am thinking the maverick or xtrail for the time being perhaps with terrano for fun next year :)

may aswell just get the terrano and use it as a soft roader, then when ready go mental and use the money you would have used to buy it to do it up :clap

some people on here don't think its true (mentioning no names lol) but i've had speedo reading of 110

you will you clot, I've had a bit more than that with the Tunit wound right up, but its actual top speed is around the 98mph mark for one in peak condition.....then theres parallax error of course LMAO! :lol

The SWB model is very limited on boot space, if you need to pak hiking gear (or go shopping ) go for the LWB (5 DOOR)
