While I was under the bonnet taking a photee of the battery, I saw this...

What are they?

There are three of them and two are connected, the end one is not. They are located on the n/s inner wing under the air filter of my 2001 T2.

Vacuum actuators I think.

on motors up to 1999 they are vac valves to control 2nd egr valve on petrols and also the valve that controls venting the fuel tank via carbon filter to air intake, similar on TD's but instead of the egr control there is something else but cannot think what as the TDi's do not have them, and I do not have a TD to look at, Rick

They seem to have a soft pipe going from the bottom of each one and an electrical connector on the top. I have a 2001 (Y plate) T2 auto.

Not looked at mine but i'm sure 1 vac pipe go's to the EGR & another 1 go's to the butterfly valve thing on the inlet manifold

OK one will be the low vac switch which presumably lights a warning light on the dash, the other may be something to do with your auto box, my manual TDi's only have one switch, Rick

No it's a TDI Rick on a 55 plate

Right just been out & looked at mine for you, all 3 sockets are plugged in, 2 of the vac pipes are T'ed together & i've traced them to the EGR valve & a butterfly thing on the inlet manifold which is below:thumb2

There are so many variants on these motors, I have two road going TDi's one Bosch and one Zexell both do not have this valve, but my off road Mav does (Zexell) so is it just Mavs or also just later models??? Rick

My 1999 T2 didn't have this thing nor did it have an egr but this 55 plate T2 I now have has an egr (blanked vac pipe) & this thing so the only thing I can think of is they poss go hand in hand would love to know what it's for because if it's not needed i'd like to get shot of it so got better air flow:augie

Mine is a 2001 2.7TDi and the two that are plugged in are T'ed together, just wondered why the one nearest the front is not plugged in. I am going to have to take another look and see if there is a connector floating around...

From your pic it also looks as if the vac pipe is also missing i'll have a better look at mine tomorrow to see where for sure the front one go's to either the egr or the valve on the manifold:thumb2 do you have the valve fitted which I put a pic up of ?

it's not for a egr as 1999 -2004 tdi don't have egrs valves
