how to check for water entry

Hi All

I was looking through the workshop manual and in the maintenance section it says you should check the clutch housing for water entry when driving through water by removing the sealing grommet.

I suppose my question is what depth of water do they mean? I think from the manual the T2 can go into water up to about a meter but surely if it is just up to the centre of the wheels you would not need to check this.

Any thoughts on this?
