How much ?

we got given a gas cooker for the bungalow , so need a gas fitter to " plug it in " to the gas ......... the cooker has a pipe thingie at the back , and there is a gas pipe with a blanking plate on the wall .........

so rung up a gas fitter ........ £105 plus vat plus parts to connect it ......is he extracting the urine , or is that really the price of plugging a cooker in ?

not saying its right, but yeah the costs is probably right. You really need to shop around mate, I would be expecting no more than £40 for connecting an oven to the gas.

if the bungalow had a plug in bayonet connector and the hose on the cooker was the same, then you do it yourself, like changing a bulb, but if the gas is capped off then it needs a new fitting (bayonet socket) about £15 but long time since I bought one, then because the gas system has been opened a gas test has to be performed, which means charging the gas line to normal pressure then monitoring it for a period of time to test for pressure drop, I would be looking for £60 to £70 for this assuming no problems found, Rick

Fitted mine myself you can buy the fitting in b&q and solder it on easy job just dont forget to turn the gas off first:lol

tbh rick mate , id rather pay you , but it would cost about 6 times that just for your fuel up to the bungalow ......will ring around a bit tomorrow .

The nanny state dictates that any gas installer is registered with many quangos and it cost him annually. Then as Rick says, the system will need testing AND registering . he is liable for that install. It's criminal law etc.

The parts are "meant" to be fitted by a "qualified" gas installer
In fact in places like Plumb centre you have to show your Gas Safe installer ID (or similar) to buy gas fittings.

yep it is all money for monies sake, I was corgi for very many years but now de registered (gas safe) so I am now deemed unfit to work on gas?????, wtf I some how know less now than I did when registered, glad I am the age I am and can say eff off, Rick

flag down a passing British Gas fitter, offer cash.
They are Gas Safe registered but only covered when they are working for BG.
