How does oil pressure work?

Hello guys.

Can you please advise if oil sensor on Terrano 2 is discrete (low pressure/high pressure) or it actually sends variable voltage/resistance to ECU?
The reason for my question - I want to fit oil pressure gauge, but don't want to drill a hole in the engine. Can I simply connect to existing sensor's wiring and take readings from there?
Thank you,
Alex

PS Looks like it sends variable voltage. Assume, it's 0-5 volts. Do you know if any 3rd party gauge can display pressure correctly?
What happens if I attach gauge to the signal line - will it not confuse ECU?

Nah does not work, simple switches, but you can get a tee piece that screws into the engine and switch goes into one and gauge or sensor into other, you just need to know the thread, as in diameter and pitch, but it will probably be BSP (british standard pipe) probably 1/8 th, or 1/4, Rick

Can't imagine the 2.7 is any more complex than the 3.0 and the 3.0 just uses an on/off pressure switch. but why bother connecting into the wiring?

Just unscrew the pressure switch, fit a t-piece and then screw the gauge sender and the pressure switch into the t-piece.

That's what I did on the 3.0 in my Trol :nenau

rustic on the ball again as usual, well done,if ever you think about selling your truck, I inist on being first in line, Rick
