How do you turn off the engine management light??

I changed the oil and filters on my 98 Maverick and turned the motor over with some plugs undone so it would not fire. Since then the management light has stayed on. How do I turn it off - I have tried leaving the battery diconnected for 12 hrs - no change.

Think you need to leave it for 24hrs or it will go out on its own at 50 starts.
