i think summats wrong , or maybe about to go wrong with my mistral ... or is it me worrying too much ?

i have a very hot type smell when the engine is running and also for quite a while after ive switched off ... all fluids levels are normal , temp guage sits just under half way ..... no warning lights .....it really smells very hot .....

any ideas folks ? ... is it about to blow up ? or am i panicking too much considering my history with my car ?

its a really hot metal type smell

If you haven't had a new exhaust recently then, is there a smell of overheating brakes with the hot metal smell? (Smells like a burning clutch on a manual).

After a run check all 4 wheels for heat, ie hubs etc.
If tyres smell of rubber more than normal, could be a sticking brake.

Since yours is automatic then there may be odd smells from that, never had one so can't comment on that bit.
I hope it's not the gear box.

Any evidence of leaking oil / fluids etc?

Check radiator level when cold.

Any evidence of leaking oil / fluids etc?none i can see, but then i cant get under the car

will do , but seems ok first thing in the morning , but sometimes reluctant to start

When you've taken it for a run remove the centre caps from the front hubs and feel the auto lockers. It's just possible you have one sticking and they get very hot (punctuate very with an F). Don't forget I'll be seeing you Saturday morning Pete so I can go around sniffing your car too:lol:lol:lol

Could be exhaust gas escaping onto a close heatshield, or worse the bodywork, so it's important to find out what is getting hot, if that is the case and can it stand it.

As a quick fix, wrap an old tin can around it and tie it with an old coat hanger.
Then get it sorted.

hubs are pretty hot after my drive , but i guess they would be :nenau,

brakes are very hot , but then it is a auto and i use them a lot , i know the pads need replacing and have some spares for the garage to fit

i cant get under the car to do the tin can thingie , but will take it to the garage for them to have a peek .

still smells very hot , and i mean VERY HOT, not just warm

have you dipped the auto fluid, what is the colour like, we know your flexi is blowing, it may have got worse and this could be the smell, hot brakes have a smell of their own, Rick

hi rick , yes i dipped the atf , its level is ok , the colour is a sort of pink , not red

the smell isnt coming from the brakes i dont think , because its not that sort of smell if you know what i mean ..... its just a smell of something getting very hot indeed , but no warning lights at all and gauges seem ok

can you remember if there is a heat shield around the flexi ?

you remember the colour when it has overheated, more brown, yes I think there is a heat shield, Rick
