hello all, the tail-pipe of the exhaust on my terrano 2.7 td snapped off from the centre box recently. I was looking at this and noticed its damaged a hose underneath it which runs from the centre of the rear axle to the propshaft (?I may have got the part names wrong i'm no expert and have trouble making head or tail of the workshop manual). Does anyone know what hose this is, what its for and what problems it being damaged may cause? Ive looked in the workshop manual and on car parts websites and cant find anything about it anywhere. Thanks, Rob S

I think the diff breather pipe is on the left hand side of the diff itself, so i'd guess it is, I extended mine for deep water

mine has this running up the side as well think briggie may be right:nenau I will take some pics tomorrow if this aint resolved:)

Sounds right (theres nothing leaking from it and its not connected to the brake pipes), what does it do and will it being damaged (close to breaking off at one end where the exhaust has rubbed against it) have caused any problems?

Basically all they do is stop the diff exploding....sort of...as the spinning gears will cause a internal pressure build up, all the breather does is relieve that pressure, the gear and transfer box have them too, also the front diff. Shouldn't of caused any damage:thumb2

Thanks, but presumably best to replace it asap?

Till it is repaired do not go wading you will fill your diff up with water, and it may also get into the other boxes the pipe is linked to, transfer box, gear box and front diff, all of these if hot will cool when hitting water and suck air in, but if pipe broke then water instead, it terminates at an upside down U near the brake master cylinder, Rick

Yeah, I'd replace it asap, just use washer jet hose as that's what I used
the U solarman is talking about actually looks like a Sheppard's crook

Might be wrong but only front diff and gearbox and transfer box go to that shepherd hock rear diff pipe goes up around the fuel tank and not linked to other breathers

I joins the fuel/brake pipe bundle and runs right to the front teeing with transfer box and gearbox on the way, Rick
