honda gearbox needed

well the gearbox in our sh1ty honda jazz has 99% died:doh, dad and i were driving and all of a sudden changing from 4th to 3rd it grinded for about 7 seconds and went with a bang and rattle and the entire car jolted so we stopped, faffed about with the gear lever trying to get it to engage, was like stirring a bowl of spanners, dad got it into 1st revved it up and drove away aggressivly, basically to un-jam it,

it seems to work but you have to shift the gears aggressivally and fast or it'll stick and just grind in neutral, it wont stay in 3rd, jumps out, unless you manually hold it, ohh and grinds when selecting reverse and shifting, so we need a recon or S/H gearbox,

we will keep running it until it stops working all together, i've never experienced a gearbox do this, seen them do other weird things but not this, and it wasnt even dads driving:lol just all of a sudden at about 50mph...guess that's what happens when you buy honda:doh:doh


basically, does anyone here know or have of a gearbox for sale? none up here bizarrely:doh

I really think you have got there already...

What you don't want to happen is for the transmission to lock up at 50 mph, or bad enough at 10 mph...:doh. locking the driveshafts, and stopping the wheels going round.
Any thing could come loose and jam it up.

Bad enough in a straight line, but around a corner.....

If you drive it like this.... I'm glad I live down here...

thing is, where i come from, we don't go out and buy new things if it's not needed, the car only gets used by dad for running to and from work and around this area, probably 30 miles from home it the furthest it'll go, i see youre point though, could lock when going around a rounder-bout for instance or overtaking etc

i think the bearings have broken away on the main shaft or somthing

Oh come on now, you have had a noisy gearbox for some time and not being funny Ryan, you dad doesn't instill any confidence in me with what I have seen of his antics driving Toby.

Aye, I don't let him drive Toby anymore as he always sods it up

I'm just surprised as Honda's are 'supposed' to be reliable, I don't know why some had weaknesses with the transmissions, I also found out that the civics with the same engines have the gearbox faults too, but, I think the jazz has poor design because off the leaks and believe it or not, rust, ours has started to rot under the back seats.

Probably because its had to have 96terrano 'senior' behind the wheel, he's already made our 61 reg meriva make peculiar smells, pissed mum right off...its her car :lol

Have to manually hold the jazz in 3rd now or it'll jump out if you take you're foot off the throttle lol doesn't crunch now exept 3rd and reverse, dad wants to keep it running until it fails spectacularly locking up the front wheels and killing himself and anyone else in the car in the process :doh so if I ain't on here anymore you'll know why :lol:lol:lol

I think the best answer is to strip the worthy parts off it and scrap it since the scrap is it a high price, and he'd get a better car for the price of the gearbox for the jazz as its got a heap of other problems too:doh

It's like there's no syncro on the gearbox :doh
