High revving

Hi,
I'm both new to this club and new to the forum thing fullstop so please excuse if I babble on like a Commons debate. Just thought if anyone knows, then it'd be someone here.:thumb2
I have a '97 Terrano II 2.7 TDI SE.
The problem I have if someone could help me (pretty pretty please with brass knobs on) is high revving. My revs, when you take your foot off accelorater pedal drop to just a gnats knacker below 1.5 thou rpm, stays there for approx 20 secs before dropping down to actual tickover of just below 1 thou rpm. Doesn't affect me till get to a junction or stuck in traffic and then can be a pain. If I release the clutch slightly and put back down it drops straight away. Seems to be ok when cold, but as warms up it gets gradually more noticable:doh.
If any one has any ideas they'd be greatly appreciated. So much in fact I'd offer my Mrs in exchange (priorities), but you'd only give her back. If anyone can fix her moaning that'd be appreciated too.

Assuming its a "fly by wire" system:
There are 2 sensors on the throttle, a positional sensor that tells the ECM the position of the throttle and a switch that establishes idle conditions when your foot is OFF the throttle.
It would be worth checking for consistent operation of the switch, it may be intermittent...

hope it fixes it mine was doing the same but i played around with the pedal switches and seemed ok sprayed Mr sheen as well because i was getting a pedal clicking on release, i also cleaned my MAF sensor as well because i thought this could be giving false messages, what ever i did it worked as it just stopped.

Was gonna go out and take a look now, but the heavens decidided to open and my drives more like a pool at the minute!:doh So will await a dry spell (sure we get them here). Will post when I've looked and let you know.

very interesting post, let us know how it works out. how do you know, for certain, wether you have fly by wire or whatever it is?? Mines an early 97 Maverick, i've got what look to be micros switches on the pedal etc but not really sure whats what!

If there is NO mechanical linkage between the throttle & the Inj. pump; its "fly by wire"

oh i see...and the injection pump is what the fuel injection pipes attach to? (i know silly question!!) situated at the front of engine?
