Hi, I have posted this elsewhere but thought I would give it a post of its own.
On fitting a new all singing radio/cd I have found that the long and medium wave are unusable due to interference although fm is ok. Using a hand held portable radio I traced the interference to somewhere in the glove compartment or under the bonnet in the same area.
I then diconnected the negative lead of the battery and the very bad noise stopped. I then connected the battery and in the cab I could hear a very high pitced whine or whistle, looked and listened all over the vehicle but could not find where it was coming from, checked the lights nothing on. baffeled I took out the key and it stopped! put key back, there it was again. Turned on ign drove around the block and the whine had gone......... still got the useless, am, longwave radio........ any Ideas? use longwave to get radio 4 when in europe.

regards.....bri

ps have done the heater mod which is in the same area

does it do it when the engine is off, i.e. ignition switch is in the position just before panel lights come on?

i think the heater mod CAN / MAY interfere with the radio..

or is it one of the kids in the back??

I get a high pitched wining in the cab sometimes too,

but then other times i leave her at home ;)

the whine was there with the key just pushed in, stopped when pulled it out, pushed it in whined then stopped when the ign turned on. The radio racket increased with engine running
and and putting on the heater fan caused a deafening noise. bri

could be anything from a cheap radio to aftermarket aerial with poorly shielded cable to who knows what, including faulty electricals in the car - lot of trial and error to eradicate really.

I''d Google until you find a result....the following is typical...implies whining is normally the alternator (funny name for a wife?).

Thank you gentlemen, but I think my ecu is under the centre console

Well i think all has been resolved. If you see the aerial post the fault is in the aerial and the amplifier which seem to be faulty, a new one has been ordered from ebay. The whine...... well that seems to be an alarm, it appears when the battery had been reconnected but I have worked out what it is for. If you leave the key in the ignition and the drivers door is open but in the locked position the alarm sounds so you dont slam the door and lock the keys inside. If you press the central locking with the drivers door open the alarm will sound until you take the key out or turn on the ignition .... well it does on mine. regards bri
