Hi, I was a member a few years ago, now I'm looking for advice on terrano 3.0di vs 2.7tdi, I previously had the 2.7, and besides the rust problem I had I thought it was great. But I am thinking of buying a 3.0, can anyone advise on any common problems ? Or is it the 2.7 that wins ? Thanks in advance :thumb2

Not much to choose between. I had a 2.7, now got 3.0.

More power, less fuel. Won't run on veggie, but don't want to anyway (sorry fellas), better towing capacity.

:D

from what I have seen of the 3, the rust problems are the same or maybe worse, the engine whilst more grunt has other issues, given the choice I would stick with the Bosch pumped 2.7 Tdi, Zexel is a tad poor, but hasten to add this is just my opinion, Rick

Cheers guys, not as bad as I was expecting so far :clap I was happy with the 2.7, but the 3 has more grunt and better for towing a horse box I would imagine. I couldn't get the problems out of my head that Isuzu had with they're 3.0 trooper, what's shambles that was supposed to be :nenau , but I've not read much re the t2

Well just today I took a load of scrap (2.5 tonnes) plus loaded car plus trailer 5.240 tonnes in total to Hastings and some good hills, no problem and I have a Zexel pump, more of a problem was the pot holes with a laden trailer with small wheels, looking at the road surface more than the general road, Rick

Don't think I've heard of anything to put me off a 3.0, only thing to remember is don't get a auto for towing heavier loads because it doesn't have a large towing capacity. Don't get me wrong they'll tow but weight limit is the issue and also no engine braking.

So what was your old user name? Welcome back.

If you do a few mods to 3litre its an awesome engine as my dad has it in a different vehicle and if you read online reviews they slate it as its a heavey breathing engine and suffered with oil residue blocking part of the inlet and melting pistons but if you do egr delete fit a catch can and fit a boost controller to take away ecu boost control they're awesome engines. But in fairness I've not herd of a problem with them in a Terrano this was mainly from the patrols etc bit for worry free motoring its gotta be 2.7 every time. It was used in black cabs and they do intergaltic millage. Accept in the terrano they're turbo,d

With our basic 2.7td without Intercooler, on the motorways you had to hold it back, to keep it down to 60 in 5th, with a boat and trailer that weighed in at over two tonne. it was ok on the dual carriage ways, but on hills, once you had to drop down to third you had to hold it all the way, but if you could keep it rolling in fourth, it flew up hills with it too.

I would have been better with the tdi, but it wasn't available when we bought our Mav all those years ago...lol :lol
I guess it depends on what weight you are towing, if you had say, a shifting load like two heavy horses could be more difficult to control, but hey, an LWB Terrano with driver and gear will weigh in at 2 Tonne easily.
Make sure your driving licence covers you for a total rolling weight of over well over 3.5 tonne. The later ones don't unless you have taken an additional test.
