I've used the search function but I can't seem to find anything on this excuse me if I'm being stupid.

I've been asking various people even people in the family who own 4x4's and none of them seem to be able to give me a decent explanation on what the different settings do and in what conditions they are best utilised.

Can anyone here give me an explanation? And seeing as I'm off to buy my first 4x4 the weekend what's the easiest way to check if the 4x4 is functioning as it should be on a Maverick

And last question, I know it's a bit off topic in here but I've just paid for my full membership but can't seem to find the "Downloads" section that I've been told to check out :(

Cheers

Look at the top of the web page and see the thin yellow line with the far left option saying Home and then User CP, well go along that line it's the next to the right hand end called Quick Links. Click on Quick Links and a menu appears, choose the second option called "Club Promo/Workshop Downloads" :thumb2

As for your 4wd, firstly and most import DO NOT USE ON A HARD SURFACE!!!!! the wheels need to be able to slip to release any tension that builds up in the transmission. Also when you drop back to 2wd drive in the oposite direction for a few feet to disengage the "Front Auto Locking Free Wheeling Hubs". These are the hubs that generally cause any issues with 4wd system on these trucks. They are by far the best option when working correctly and serviced correctly. I ended up replacing mine to manual hubs but you'll see loads and loads of posts regarding these hubs. As said by another member there are instructions in the downloads for the 4wd. You can change whilst moving between 2 and 4wd High ratio but only at low speeds. To engage 4 wd low box you have to be stationary which is why when you see the lever you have to push down to switch between 4wd H and 4wd L with a nuetral between thse two. 1st gear in L is very low ratio and is great for slow slow driving on slippery surfaces such as a muddy/rocky downhill stretch.

I'm sure others will be along to give further info. Don't be worried by it and remember the golden rules about no hard surface, unlocking the hubs and stopping to select L.

When you've got the motor have a go off road to learn what your motor will do and enjoy it.
