Just bought Terrano 3lt 2002 100,000 miles on clock with service history what mods do I need to do to get most out of engine ? As been reading some horror stories of this type of engine blowing up . any help would be great

Welcome aboard.

Service it would be a good start and keep it serviced regularly.

Hi and welcome.
The horror story problems were sorted before the engines made it to your truck but, as Jim says, a full engine service is a good start.
There are extras you could do and others will list them later I reckon. Mines still standard too at the minute. :thumbs

Hi mate and welcome, do not use anything than pure derv in your truck, it will kill the pump, Rick

Hi mate and welcome :thumb2

It's generally accepted that by the time the ZD30 was fitted to the Terrano, the issues that had plagued the Patrol had been put to bed :thumb2

If you really really wanted to, you could do the same engine mods that they did to prevent problems on the Patrol, if you search for ZD30 NADS Mods you should find plenty of reading material.

Rob (Barrbeast) did these mods on his Y61 Patrol, should be a write up with pictures somewhere.

Only other real issue with the 3.0 litre is the high pressure oil switch is prone to fail which causes the oil light to come on, you can get a new one for near £10 :thumb2

Thanks all for the replies

Hello,

Was it the rear diff oil that was changed? If yes are you sure they used the correct oil. It has to be a Limited Slip Diff specific oil or else things can get excitable at the rear end.

Take care

Hi yes right oil used ! Just need to sort
This turbo lag in 3rd and 4th out now .
Also is it worth blocking the egr valve off ?

Woah there buddy. Research this. It's not as easy as that on 3ltrs. :thumbs

Well worth having your inlet manifold off and giving it a clean, think you will be shocked at what is in there, unless it has been done recently which I doubt, Oh and it is a very strange set up, Rick
