Oh that's bad news, hope your getting it fixed and back on the road where it belongs.

Jim

Adz has an engine with a cracked head, if your head is OK you could make good engine from the two, have a word with ADZ, Rick

cheers Rick, a 3.0 ?

doesnt seem realted to hgf, though these my2000 i believer were prone to
cracked pistons, wonder how long its been like that.

Ah sorry mate lost track of the fact yours is a 3 I believe these suffer from piston problems, try Nissan first for another engine, Rick

really at 10 years old?

Mind former member Jace, was telling me via facebook, that his navara with a
zd, but not intercooled, think must be an import of some description, had 4 pistons
fitted before he bought it, 6 years ago the previous owner had spent £2100 on
parts and labour.

still what do you think of crack, it less than a 1cm long, but does go down
edge too.

could it be 'glued' or welded in situ. engineer is already gulping at work to
strip to date, let alone lift block out, others are suggesting drop axle and
process in situ.

the 3.0lt does has premature piston failure problems, one guy on another forum, had 2 pistons go, had engine rebuilt less than 20k another piston gone,
and that is the reason i didn't buy one.

.

You cannot run an engine with a crack like that, there is no cure welding will add mass to the piston, so putting the fine balance of the engine out which will increase stresses all round, a new piston is the cheapest option but in reality you have to do all four as again they have to be matched weight wise, and then you need to look at piston height re thickness of head gasket, there are many people out there offering engines from scrap motors with a warranty £500 should get you a good one, Rick

500 quid for a zd, ok will look.

upto now only found a firm in manchesrer than can supply on exchange
one for 2 grand, or will do install to rounding upto £2600 using old
turbo and alt etc.

saw a 2.8td 6 pot for 1500, be tempted apart from then non standard
and probably shag the insurance up.

cant run with crack but guess already have been for how long ???

might do hg, and flog it, head back for a late 2.7 terrano, dunno heads
in a bit of a whirl...

cheers Pete just seen that one and copied down phone number.

searched patrol piston, theres a seller 99 each with rings and pin.

milners do 4 pistons and pins for 260, set of 4x3 rings 72, so 330 plus vat.

400 either way, then wonder what happens if find cranks shagged too.

budgetted a grand for hg on basis of worst case needing all suggested
parts, reckon doing pistons is another grand.

maybe about limit of what car is worth, and keep for ever, as still like
it over terrano, but wouldnt buy another troll if you follow, would be a
t2 or a land cruiser then...

having consulted book times for a hgf first.

did they not fix the 3 litre engine.? before they popped it in the t2. so cant you find out what engines are good from the numbers or somit and shop around for one of them .

i recon a grand maybe a little more and slip rick a few quid to pop it in .... closer to budget .

be worth keeping with the right engine wont it

oh well he has come back with opinion of the hed skimmers the lot needs
doing.

worst case scenario parts wise including hgf work is 2900.

tbf thats about price of a short engine fitted by another firm i saw on ebay.

dont have much choice being as its in bits in his workshop now.

would have to do hg and flog sharpish otherwise, not my style and we do
still like the truck, even trading it in means spending more on the upsell for
an unknown truck.

so thought better get bob a job week started....good at washing up!

will they not fit an engine for you if it was supplied to them?

says like rocking horse poo.

plus mine in bits,

best price i found for a recon was £2000

majority reckon better having own refurbed.

says in good nick otherwise, so just about ecomomical
still, ebayed some earlier prices for cars between
£4000 and £6000

paid £3500 for it 18 months ago after trade in and cash
back write off of terrano, so reckon going to keep it for
few years yet and bite bullet.

i just wish i could help in some way mate , but i dunno any patrol engines about:(

looked at them, but these trolls are as old as mine, so more likely
to suffer the piston failure associated with these engines certainly
upto around 2003.

nope if spending might as well have new parts, plan to keep car long term
so its an investment.
