Just went down to the car park to start it, the engine light is on, it turns over but not firing.

Was running a bit funny on the way here this morning.

Have called the RAC. Am just about to download the manual with the error codes in to show the RAC man when he gets here.

Hope I get a good mechanic!

you are having bit of bad luck at the mo karin , but im sure it will change , your problem sounds a bit fuel related , but i may ( probably am ) wrong , hope you get it fixed :thumb2

Bad luck! You're not kidding! I bought a trailer yesterday, when I got it home one tyre had shredded off, the jockey wheel is jammed, and the winder-thingy that keeps it from slipping through has been snapped off.

id lend you my car karin , but sheila has nicked it :doh:eek:

could be starter, or glow plugs perhaps...good luck!

Try turning ignition key slowly to start it, don't ask me why but turning it slowly seems to work. When the switch mounted below the barrel gets worn the contacts don't seem to make contact very well and it gives similar faults to what you've described. Last time I heard the switch was 40 odd quid from a stealer and is pretty easy to fit.

just to help members with ideas for the fault the car in question is a 2001, 3 litre Patrol :thumb2

The RAC patrolman was very nice and a good mechanic. By the time he had arrived I had run back upstairs to the office and printed out the ENTIRE 120 pages of the manual - he found this very funny. While I went in again to get the spare key he had got the car started.

He said there was air in the filter, he thought the filter was old and blocked. I had a spare filter in the car so he changed it.

It got me home but was a little bit lumpy by the time I got back. It doesn't seem to like stop starting in traffic.

Fuel/air problems, if you can get it here for the party we will check it out, Rick
