Hi ;-
hope someone can point me in the right direction. Was towing a trailer yesterday, when got to destination it became apparent that the plug from the trailer lights to the T2 had somehow come out, was all scuffed but did not appear to have damaged the wires inside. On the return journey which was a lot of motorway and therefore most important had lights, pulled in for fuel,- noticed aslight burnin smell from the fuse box,(drivers side under the s teering wheel) not the 1 under the bonnet. Quickly i pulled the fuses.to the touch the box was relatively warm,as was the 12 n socket on the rear of the car. I pulled the trailer plug out, which was when i noticed the black lead was out of it where it should have been. but couldnt see where it should go. I replaced the fuses and travelled back, with the plug out with out any problems and all electrics working(so i thought). the Brake lights are permanently on now(including the high 1) and am having to pull the fuse. Not got a lot of electrical knowledge, but its obvious that a circuit is being made somewhere:nenau:nenau. Any help and advice would be most appreciated. cos at the moment, aint got no brake lights. not very safe or in fact legal.
Thanks in Advance Wayne

If you haven't the know how then the obvious choice is auto electrician.

Are you talking about the large black lead into plug which carries 6 wires? if so then the wires could be touching within plug, un screw plug and check all connections are tight and not touching.

If the wires have touched then you may have melted wires to gether some where?

You could how ever check the switch is OK on brake pedal, if its stuck in side, then lights will be on, dis-connect and check with multi meter or simple wire/light/battery to see if the switch is switching.

thanks 4 that Dino, have checked the plug on trailer and changed for a new one just to make sure.
got mi head under the pedals and Yes as youve said there the two wires that come off the break pedal switch are melted,, this suggests that the circuit is being made there. just need to try and trace where they disappear to under the dash.:confused:

Result:thumb2
managed to seperate the wires, been like a bloody ,contortionist 4 what seemed like an eternity, but all working well again now. Think a lesson to be learned by this one,- if you tow a lot like i do carry a spare lighting plug.

after being under the dash, you might need to book an appointment with an ostopath. :lol :naughty

Know what youre sayin Tezzer, got stuck at one point. not good for you at over 6ft tall. god knows how ide feel if it had been a little car. But seems to have done the trick.:):)
Cheers Wayne
