I noticed the other day my heater knob would only turn to just above half and no matter what I did only hot air comes out. I managed to get it to turn as it should but hot only comes out.
Any idea of what could be wrong and where?

Cable / rods off controls or heater unit

Behind glovebox or centre of dash

I take it you are guessing or is it a common problem?

clip falls off or breaks, I put some pics up a few weeks ago but cannot remember which thread it was, but you say "turn" the knob so is yours after 99, if so I am not sure Rick

mistrals have them like that, all electric, not cable

This has happened on my 2001 Terrano a couple of times.

You will need to remove the radio by grabbing it where the cassettes go and giving a sharp pull. You will the have to remove the screws behind the ashtray, after removing it of course, and some screws which should now be visible with the radio removed. I think that all of them, but have a look for others.

You will also need to loosen the trim around the gear stick as well, which I think can be unscrewed via a small pop out panel covering the screws. This can be slid back and you need to carefully slide/work a non marring tool all around the trim holding the moulding/trim that the radio and heater knobs are fixed into. You will have to remove the heater knobs first. Also take care to disconnect wires to the lighter socket and anything else. Hopefully the trim should pop off (I use a plastic bicycle tyre lever to pop the trim off, Which doesn't damage the finishes on the dashboard like a metal tool).

Once this is all removed you will see two Bowden cables, one for the temperature and one for the airflow direction. I suspect that the temperature cable has come adrift from the clip that anchors it.

I could not get the clip back on mine, as it had broken, but I carefully pinched the cable between some large washers and a bolt... Just tight enough to hold the outer sheathing and not restrict the cable.

Reassemble and it should all be well.

Please note. I am working from memory on this so please take care to look for any wires, screws or clips that I may have forgotten. It's always prudent to be careful with the brittle plastic on the cars interior anyway.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Alan

All sorted now, where the clip clips too the plastic had snapped easy enough fix.
Thanks. :thumbs
