The heater on my terrano blows cold, when i have selected hot.

Its not ice cold, there is a small bit of heat, but not as hot as it should be.

Enough water in the radiator etc, any suggestions?

when my lexus did this the internal rad was blocked with crap, I disconnected the hoses where they go through baukhead and ran a hose through it both ways for an hour.

Russell.

Besides a blockage i would be checking pollen filter see the down loads page and also the thermostat. I changed my stat for an 88 degree instead of the 82 cos mine was cold. Never really found out if it was a change of stat or change of spec of the stat.

For the sake of about £15 I'd replace the thermostat and gasket :thumb2

That fixed my Maverick a treat after mine failed closed and nearly blew the car up!!!! :doh

Have you checked that the heater cable is working OK and not broken away from where it clips on to the control - common problem.

All above, with the exception of the pollen filter. It does what it's description says.

Pollen filter gets clogged and reduces the air flow substantially in my experience, its surprising all the crud it collects large particles like leaves flies even feathers as well as dust and the grains of pollen.

Dont know if the same as some Jags here, some have a stuck heater valves?

they give exact issues, stuck on hot or stuck on cold. :nenau

Thanks for the replys.

I think the cable is ok, as if i select Cold, i get cold air, and when i select warm, i get warm cold air.

The temp gauge doesnt go up past the 1/2 way, so would that suggest that the thermostat is working ok?

Can i remove the thermostat, and run it without for an hour or so to see if that is the problem?

thanks
John

Sounds like the stat is not doing it's job if the temp gauge is not going towards the halfway mark.

its nearly always a thermostat as posted above, you can do no harm by sticking a new one in
check the viscous fan if its got one or electric fan, if that staying on then your constantly cooling down what your trying to heat up

Simple check:
pop the heater hoses off the bulkhead, attach the garden hose to the inlet side and check for free flow, if ok then the problem is not in the heater unit.

No it sounds like it is working, he said it doesent go PAST halfway, that's the same as mine :thumbs

My temp gauge never goes more than just between 1/4 and 1/2...

Stuck it in for an MOT today, so will investigate the heater when i get it back, providing it doesnt need much!!
