Heater Blowing without Ignition On

Got in my van after work tonight and the heater fan was blowing without the key in the ignition. Had to jump start it off the pick up. When I got home and stopped it the the lights on the dash, radio etc all go off but the heater keeps blowing. Has anyone else had this happen? or any ideas what to be lookin for?

well, i accently had 2 wires crossed on my radio, the acc wire connected to permanent + and that caused the fan to stay on

LOL I did something similar 20years ago as a stupid teenager. I bought a state of the art cassette player from currys, I had to wire it in to my Mini as soon as I got back to the car park. :thumbs

When I got home, I turned off the ignition switch and took out the key but the engine was still running. I found by manually turning off the radio I could actually stop the engine or turn the ignition on and off. :doh

Sounds like ign switch to me but not sure what truck you have :nenau
Put the spec in your sigy then people will have more info handy.
On the pre digi dash ones the key switch fails and when not fully returned then the lights on the dash go out and the radio goes off etc.
That said I'm not sure if that relates to the fan bit though ?

Well I did change the radio 6 weeks ago. I fitted a Kenwood with a Kenwood bluetooth kit I used to have in a tractor. The radio wiring plugged into an adaptor for the steering wheel controls and then into the car harness. I know what you mean about swapping the Red and Yellow + wires but I didn't need to. Everythings working as it should, keeping its memory and turning off with the ignition.

I can't understand where the fan's getting its power from when the ignitions off when nothing else is.

I'll have to try and make time to investigate tomorrow inbetween decorating the kitchen. Heres me thinking I'm on holiday

Just to be sure it's not getting some strange feed via the radio try disconnecting the radio from the vehicles loom and test it.

If it is getting a feed from somewhere else, rather than the ignition feed, then it means it is by-passing any fuse that would be protecting it.
Thus there could be some wiring that is un protected, and so could cause more serious issues.

I would check the radio loom as suggested, it might be that a wire has loosened within the loom, and has somehow connected to the acc feed.

Just a thought, but do you have an electric aerial on the vehicle, as often there is a live feed to this so it can drop down after you switch off, now if the wiring to this is wrong, it could feed back to the acc line via the radio:nenau

Whatever the issue, it could be that you need to start at the radio, as I assume all was well before you installed it.
